Mastery Cyclic Pickups?
Stumbled on to these on Mastery's webstore one night. I haven't seen or heard anything about these and their description is minimal at best. Does anyone have any experience or more info about these pickups? They look like they could be pretty interesting and it feels like some people around here are always looking for different pickups for projects.

Gonna be honest, at $500 a set with no description or sound samples, I'm not willing to find out.

Weird! They look pretty interesting, but like you said, there is literally no info on the website.
All it says is;” Reproduces sound through amplification.”
It looks like they they could possibly have four coils, which would be cool. Hard to speculate when they don’t give you any more info though.

Yeah, that's a steep price for a mystery. Even if they just posted a video, it'd be helpful. It looks like the $500 doesn't even include the template for mounting them.AcrylicSuperman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 12:38 pmGonna be honest, at $500 a set with no description or sound samples, I'm not willing to find out.

What guitar would you put them in?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Me personally? Not sure. A Jazzmaster springs to mind off the top of my head but could be cool on something like a Mosrite.
It would be cool on an Art Deco styled guitar, like something from the 20's or early 30's? The aesthetic work on them reminds me of that design style.
I guess BiLT used them in an original designed guitar.

That didn't make anything better.

Harvester also used them in a prototype :

Nels got a woody jazz tone out of them, though. Sounded like of like an ES-175.

Re: Mastery Cyclic Pickups?
Is it wrong that I would want to mount them both in the same orientation (vs having them make a half circle)?

Re: Mastery Cyclic Pickups?
the world is your oyster (i assume anyway, maybe they catch fire if they're the wrong way around...)
i haven't seen Harvester post on here in ages, but i imagine he'd be willing to share thoughts on these.
the mastery hype still does nothing for me, but they're reputability is hard to argue with, and i'm always here for someone trying something (seemingly) different in relation to guitar design and guitar part design. i'm definitely into the look of them installed too.

At least it seems some guitar makers are doing something different than just copies of classic designs. That's always worth celebrating, even if it doesn't go in the direction we'd hope.

Don't get too excited yet, it's entirely possible that it's just an established pickup style in a stylized plastic case.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

Re: Mastery Cyclic Pickups?
Even if it's just a boring established pickup inside, I always welcome builders having a design language rather than just styling it like Fender or Gibson did
