There's also someone in Germany I cannot recall who making vaguely hagstrom-esque things that are basically surface mounted. If this rings a bell for anyone....
Was it one of the Göldo units?

Yes! The DG is what I had in mind.

Literally, I just took off the cigar and its associated springs etc, drilled the plate and then screwed on a Les Trem. It has a super low break angle so I swapped out that Staytrem for a Mastery for the deeper grooves and it's been solid and stable ever since.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I got my musicmaster routed for a jazzmaster trem. I think there is about 1/8” to spare. It turned out great.
I’ve since routed it out for two single coils and have a new pickguard on its way.

Quick question? Is the body the standard 1.5" thick?

I glued an 1/8" thick spacer on a thinner Squier Strat body to create a full 1.75" thick body and used a standard trem. The 1/8" spacer is basically the thickness of the pickguard and isn't noticed. You would have to use an 1/4" spacer. That would stick up and possibly require a neck shim. I got away without out it on mine, but the saddles are pretty low. Alternatively, you could use an 1/8" spacer and shave the other 1/8" off the tremblock.
This guitar is a mongrel. Built with spare parts. I did end up buying a new MIM bridge, because I knew I would want to switch out the Squier eventually, and setup on a new bridge is a pain. The neck is a Squier and the body is High School woodshop special out of pine that had a crack running through it. I took 1/2"hr one day and painted it red with a spray can - never polished it. It was originally natural. I chiseled extra area around the block. It can dive bomb a ridiculous amount.

I did cut down a block on another Squier. Squiers come with shorter blocks, but they are not great. I think a few aftermarket places offer a short block with their upgrades bridges.
You still may have issues with the depth of the rout for the springs vs pickup depths. I think at 1.5" thick, you only have 1/4" between the backside rout and the pickups.

Another Les Trem fan here. I adapted my Mustang to take one after finally giving up on the stock one...

Mill down a strat block until it fits. Crank the springs a little tighter to compensate for the loss of mechanical advantage.

:D almost!

I was just amazed at how much better it was than the stock one - which had been driving me insane with tuning issues. It's since had a Mastery put on instead of the Staytrem as the break angle is extremely shallow. The deep grooves in the Mastery bridge were perfect for it.

The only thing I dislike about the whole contraption is the pickups are terribly microphonic. I'll get them dipped at some point soon so I can use it more.

Do you have a thread on this? I have a Musicmaster I'm thinking of converting...
