Who makes good Gold Foils...

Post by Lost In Autumn » Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:07 pm

besides Curtis Novak?
I'm looking for a good gold foil neck pickup and am less than enthused about sending my money to the Mojave right now. Who else makes great sounding gold foil pickups? I know Mojo has a few, but they've also got an outstandingly long wait time. Anyone else that you can recommend? It's for a Tele project, but doesn't necessarily have to be Tele neck sized.

I'm interested in the lollar gold foils. The demos on youtube are really good and I think Novo uses them in their guitars if that provided any validation.

I dk how much these really sound like goldfoils (which I dearly love).

I'd go with Gemini pickups. They do foil pickups in numerous formats, wound to either Teisco, Guyatone, or DeArmond spec.

oooh... the price certainly is right. I was thinking a surface mount, along the lines of a Teisco or Zen-On, but I might just take the path of least resistance and get this in DeArmond spec, it would likely pair well with a WRHB: https://www.geminipickups.com/store/p17 ... dfoil.html#/

I bought a pair of "Victory" gold foils and they are really good. They are like the DeArmond "Hershey Bar" design (winding wrapped in a lacquered paper loop and then a bar magnet placed in the middle of the loop.)

The term "gold foil" is really kinda worthless though, a lot of construction designs under the foil.
I think the Teisco foils are sort of the ones people think of....iirc those have a strange design of a winding in a lacquered paper loop with poles placed in the middle and then the magnet off to the side of the winding.
