Building a period correct Jag

Post by Horsefeather » Thu Oct 21, 2021 5:58 pm

Okay, if you wanted to put together the parts for the most '63 era accurate Jaguar you could, what would folks recommend?

With the existence of AVRI hardware, I guess this is mostly a question about bodies and necks.

Associated question: Can you get the original headstock shape out of the current versions available? The original one has a very flat belly with a pronounced bend down at the bottom (like a jaguar's claw?) whereas modern ones seem to all have rather curved bellies.

In terms of bodies, Guitar Mill makes a body shaped from a '64.

I'm not an expert on Jaguar's so I can't help you on the neck but I'd likely look at Musikraft.

I don't think anyone does clay dots, but I've used two pac wood filler for a similar effect.

Musikraft offers the veneer fingerboard option, and their Jaguar headstock looks the part.

Actually, I have a source for those.
