Marauder II Body Builder

Post by Cob » Tue Oct 12, 2021 3:10 pm

Hey everyone,

With Chris and Texas Toast out of the custom body game for the time being, I'm wondering if y'all would be able to recommend a reputable shop who would be able to build me a Marauder II body for a custom build that I want to put together in the summer. If anything I may end up going the Bilt route, but as a stickler/weirdo I want the body to be as accurate as possible IF possible. Thanks for your help!

Dunno if you saw my thread but Leonardo from Ceccerini guitars in Italy (I guess you are in USA which may make it cost prohibitive) has built me a Marauder body based on the best photo I could find. Not sure if that is accurate enough for you - but obviously now he has the plans to make more.
Otherwise of course there is Katzguitars i.e. Deed Poll here in the group - but he's in the UK. I'd have ordered from him but customs and duties from the UK got seriously expensive here to the EU since January.

In case you can't find the thread here's mine- of course it's not 100% faithful with regard to routing as that's not what I am going for. But I think the body shape is pretty spot on.

Can't help with the body, got mine from Texas Toast - but if you don't have a neck, Musikraft should be offering necks now as a hidden option. Here's the old topic for any future Marauder men: viewtopic.php?t=118689
"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master."

Thanks for the shout out, MC5tooge! Above is a pic of a kit as I would provide it (minus the pickups, neck and Vibrato!) The kit includes body, pickguard, all plates, roller pot brackets, NOS rocker switches and the screws and spacers to mount them. Basically everything that's difficult to find for you to make your own faithful Marauder II replica. Just waiting on a couple of pics from Rexter of a kit he has finished in Charcoal Frost Metallic - more soon!

Send me a PM if interested :)

Cheers

It was the least I could do Deed Poll. Sorry it just wasn't viable for me to order with you. Maybe another time if I ever get flush enough to be able to take the hit of a couple of hundred quid in VAT and handling fees. Also I REALLY wanted to use my Stetsbar ;D

No worries at all dude!

You can see from the closeups above and the picture below just how closely the plates and guard need to fit together, and it's also pretty tight with the body routing as well in places. Just thought I'd demonstrate here with the pictures at our disposal why I advise against mixing and matching plates / guards / bodies from different places - it's not because I doubt the quality of others, but because I think we've each made our *own* best interpretation (Faction, BilT, myself and others) based on images, and we have each designed them to be internally compatible within the quite fine margins the design allows (with all the coincident curves and points where multiple plates and the guard all but up against each other). :)

Chicago Guitar Space (in Chicago, how did you guess ?) makes a Marauder too, I don't know if they sell parts separately.

Mine's more about the Mk 1 prototype than the mark 2, luckily... but good to bear in mind for anyone going the "full Monty".
Not going for a true Marauder even - just the body shape and Jaguar control plates with side jack as I can't really justify another guitar with Jag pickups when I already have a nice Jag and too many Strats with 3 "narrow" single coils as it is.
And since it's not a "proper" Jazzmaster neck it was always going to be a weird hybrid anyway.
One thing I am curious about though - is how the roller knobs are mounted with just one screw apparently for each knob. What's going on there? Is it some kind of stepped mount?

They're a custom laser-cut and machine folded steel piece I designed and had made to fit the Jaguar pots ;)
