Loose tuner ferrules

Post by marqueemoon » Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:36 pm

Rehabbing my bandmate’s bass and after de-stringing two of the ferrules just fell right out.

Seems like string tension was enough to keep them in place. Should I bother trying to improve the fit? Maybe a light film of wood glue inside the holes or something?

I just wrap some masking or painters' tape around them and press them back in.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Thanks. I will give this a shot. I actually used painter’s tape to shim knobs on a pedal recently. It’s one of my favorite things.

If it just needs a tiny bit, I'll swirl CA glue on the inside of the hole to build up just a bit of surface for the ferrule knurling to hold onto. If it needs more, I've layered paper inside the hole along with CA glue.
