Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
I just had a look at my English supplier's catalogue, wouldn't these be close enough?
https://www.cermagmagnets.co.uk/ceramic ... 2043-p.asp
They are charged across the thickness (5mm), which is what you want. You can stack two of them together easily.
The other (even cheaper) option would be to harvest the magnets at the bottom of s**t Asian strat pickups - some of them might be the right dimension right away. I'll have a look in my junk drawer today and see if I have a few knocking about that I can mail you. The prices at Cermag are more than fair but since Brexit came into effect their P&P costs have gone up to a flat £20 or £25, so it's only worth it if you order a lot at once.
I freaking love where this guitar is going, by the way
edit: just rummaged around my workshop. I found a pair of Chinese strat pickups out of which I extracted two magnets, 61x10x6mm. I thought I had more but the others were smaller blocks arranged like a P90. But those two are yours if you want them!

Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
thanks very much for the offer epizootics ,i am happy of your offer send me a pm with your paypal adress then i will paid the postage (yesterday i have buy some timbre since longtime !that was fucking expensive now )
your english site is what i want but with a minimum of 25 € of postage it is way too expensive for 3 € of order ,i find some at emma music but a 6 € and i need 6
https://www.emma-music.com/lot-de-2-vis ... 2x32729552
then 36 € is more than the budget of the guitars at this time ,bad days this days i have to pay my taxes and since i have been unemployed fews month last year it is hard to have a month salary of taxes to pay in one month , i know is for everybody but this year i am short also the precedent years i was broken then the situation become better year after year i hope next year it will be better (and fuck covid also! a friendwho is new cabinet maker have trouble too the iron is really expensive and the wood is unfoundable only chataigner and poplar ,i have ask him some alder ,a half of plank no no way ! basswood also ! there is no wood in france hopefully i have my private reserve
today i was too much tired ,morning week then zombie all the day!if i goin the garage i risk to cut myself with my japanese saw i stay safety up and i have think lot of thing ,depend if i can access to the milling machine at works for doing my trem
4 options
no access to the mill (i have already have this feeling)
first
a mastery style trem plate in aluminium with fender japan trem inner (the collet for the arm is bad ,but i have the part already)
second
a sg5 ,or sgv trem plate style in aluminium with fender japan trem inner (the collet for the arm is bad ,but i have the part already)
with access to the mill
third a sgv style trem like the real thing with roller and strat spring (not really fan of the rear routing but it looks really cool )with a bonus to put more springs cause 2 is not enought !and i have a strat arm since years
(just have an idea that can reduce drasticly the milling of the moving part ,need to make a pin proto to valid it )
four
a mosrite like i have done before (this way with the mill or not ,too much time consuming i remember one week complete and alumium chips hurt a lot ,they are very pointy ,need a complete protection ,suit ,glasses, mask ect to rout them )
and i have also to make the plan for the pickup
cover and bobin needed it for printing,
for now i have the steel bar that need to be cut in 60 mm part ,be milled up an down and threadedd for the screws and the wire ,will use 43 awg
i think the only part i haven't done in guitar building is tuners! i think it could be a good challenge but need some tools

Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
neck again
glue the fretboard after sloting
copy the neck and fretboard with my mosrite neck template (it works why must i do another ?)
routing the binding ,neck + headstock (big headhache need a template martyre for it ,i must have do it before gluing fretboard but this way i have no risk of offset du to gluing )
binding installation and rerouting the portion needed for the fretboard binding (the headstock binding was a pain it doesn't want to glue an stay in place with my cyano i have needed some tool and some heat to conform it ,tomorrow i will untaped it an see the result (hope i have no too much gap cause i have lost all my finger print !)
next will come soon

Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
Thanks i am a modest homebuilder who build for my own need ,the first one was a jazz cause at this time i have no money to buy it ,and after the envy of anothers guitars grows then why not made it ! too late i have put my hand in the gear ,in fact since i build my gas are more low cause i have to build them (then one at the time),building is my hobby to distress and i love it ,the more i could do on my own is the best ,the worse is i play jazzmaster the more (that s why i have multiple i love them for the sound and feel ) ,i try to play more my build of another guitar but i always return on my jazz
hope this will be the exception but as i miss my sgv300 i try

Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
cut a little part at the heel
ta da my telecaster neck pocket template works (one less thing to do)
i discover a trouble ,as my neck is more larger than the original ,it go out of the neck pocket that i have already sand on the body the parade i find is offset it by 2 mm ,the guitar axes will be 2mm highter ,it is small and i don't think it will be visible (and i fink more nice than a neck who don't fit in neck pocket ,2 mm out at the treble side will be ugly or need to be sand to follow the body shape ,don't know guitar with neck larger than neck pocket ?)
and i take a look if the tuners will be aligned before drilling (like up m neck is little larger and have a 0 fret )

Re: Yamaha SG5 /SG7 build
thanks
recept my big chinese bit ,1/4radius 20 mm need to change the bearing of 9,5mm to a 12 mm one ,but not bad to 15 euros fdp in ! i am pretty sure it will be a little crappy and must be use with very low speed cause of the 60 mm diameter but it will avoid lot of rasp to made the 1/4 round radius 22 mm of the body ,less than 15 days i am surprised to have it already
