I do recommend a sharp chisel and a countersinking bit for your drill

Those drill guides seem like something that would be very helpful and I never would have even thought about that! Thanks!
ideally you want to clamp it, but be gentle with nitro finishes that haven't cured too long. the rubber pads could leave dents worst case.

regardless, good luck! can't wait to see what you do!

Oh wow! This is a great read and full of tons of info! This makes me think the thing I should worry most about getting right is squaring off the trem routing because from the looks of it MJT (at least on the body I bought Friday) seems to still round off the corners of the bottom of the trem route. I don’t know about chiseling but I kinda thought I might trace the routing from my AO Jazzmaster, lay it over the MJT route, and then pencil some marks where it would need to be routed further. Wonder if that could be done by sanding or with a small pencil sized saw. Anyone want to weigh in?

If my plan was to put a Mastery trem on it would that solve the issue outright or would it still need to be further squared off?

Hopping back in to say that I bought the MJT body and have shielded it and fit a neck to it (just to make sure it fit - had to slightly sand the pocket but once I did that it slid in nice and tight) and now I'm slowly routing the bridge post holes by hand with a file and it's going well! The trem pocket looks to be shorter than AVRI standard by about a few millimeters so I guess either a chisel is in order or I'm going to slowly sand the pocket back (which seems like way more work but probably safer(?)

Will try and get some pics in here at some point of my progress.
