Iceman Bass Music Man Style Re-Finished PG. 4

Post by HNB » Sun May 02, 2021 10:06 am

Ordered this body from Warmoth quite a ways back and it arrived yesterday. I wanted to try out a Music Man style bass. (Since then I got my Stingray that I really like, so it has only made me more excited.) It is going to be a three knob style build with the traditional active circuit and passive pickup. I already have the active circuit, but haven't ordered anything else for it yet.

You can't order these with body contours from Warmoth, so I asked a friend to add them for me. :) Here is how it looks before I sealed it back up to mail it off for contours. :D I love love love the look and feel of ash. No idea what I want to do color wise yet, but it will be some sort of transparent dye or stain. :)

Nothing suits the quirkiness of the Iceman body shape quite like purple.

VERY cool project!!!!

I always liked the Iceman, until Ibanez released the Fireman. I wish Warmoth could make Fireman guitar or bass bodies.

I think Sound Guitar Works makes them.

I sanded most of the black off. The sides were a pain so I wasn't able to get as much off.

Added the green dye/stain. :)

Didn't turn out how I imagined, but not in a bad way. Ash sucks for sanding back. I guess that is because it absorbs more than maple. I don't think I will do this with ash again..... LOL

The Peavey bass I am scavenging the neck off of came. :)

Luckily the neck fit the pocket just fine. :D

Took everything off and got to sanding. It had dings and scratches and such.

Then I died it brown.

There are some patches where the old finish wasn't fully sanded off.... but I kind of dig it. I think it makes it more interesting than if it was just solid dark. :)
