Black Jaguar project
Finally started getting the parts for my first build. Had a jag in mind for a while as i love my Squier JM but i wanted a sharper sound from the pickups and i loved the look.
Got an AllParts neck, 2.1kg alder body from Guitarbuild with a white pearl guard and got a set of mij jaguar pickups from ebay.
I just feel its crying out for a black finish.

Yeah of course, that would be great. I'd be lying if i said your jag wasn't a little bit of an inspiration for this build.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 10:07 amnice. if you want inspiration for your black jag build, i can get some good pictures of mine for you.

Re: Black Jaguar project
Is the wiring in yours as per a typical jag without the thumbwheels?

Re: Black Jaguar project
Okay so I've started finishing the body using nitro aerosols from northwest guitars. I sanded the body with 400 grit till it was flat, applied 2 coats of sanding sealer and a mist coat of black which i then levelled. Gave it another coat of sealer and let dry before starting on the proper finishing. Its had three coats of colour but the grain is still showing quite significantly on the front and back (less so on the sides which appear much more flat). I tried wet sanding with the 400 to see if i could flatten it out a bit which sort of worked but I sanded through a little in some areas. I'm a bit depressed about how its turned out even if it is my first time doing a finish. Wondering where i should go with it from here.

Re: Black Jaguar project
ok. i think your primer coat was too thin BUT it's kinda at a point where there's colour on it so i think the best thing to do is keep doing colour coat's till it evens out. wet sanding between coats. i had a same issue with my orange telemaster. it happens. personally, i like keeping a bit of the grain but that's a personal thing.
i think if you're wanting a good high gloss black then you're going to need to keep doing a colour coat, wet sand, colour, wet sand. black is a really difficult colour to get right..... but you seemed to have done an ok job on the first few coats.

Just accidentaly sprayed black gloss over my clearcoat. Should i sand it back or just spray some coats of clear over it?

Can I ask why you'd choose that over rhythm switch? I just started on a Jag partscaster, and decided not to go with the Johnny Marr wiring (not the guitar, it's out of my pricerange, but Stratosphere had the electronics fairly cheap) because he bypasses the classic Jag circuit.

Re: Black Jaguar project
ok. so i've never been into the johnny marr or traditional style circuit because it's just never worked for me, but i've always liked out of phase pickups because i can get a faux cocked wah sound and in some cases, it can really cut through and make a good lead boost despite the loss in gain. i think like 50% of my guitars have them now.joshinrva wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 11:24 amCan I ask why you'd choose that over rhythm switch?
