UK buyers Wait Time Warmoth or Best Guitar Parts USA

Post by Nudger » Mon Mar 29, 2021 5:26 am

Beautiful "Warmoth USA" Electric XII neck arrived in UK today.

I must admit that I wasnt expecting it to get here so soon!!
Only took 53 days from ordering to the door.

I have also ordered a XII Neck from "Best Guitar Parts USA".. Same as above, Unfinished Maple/Rosewood.
This neck was ordered 12th Dec 2020.

To give UK buyers an idea of turnaround times from these two USA suppliers I will post how many days it took.. When "BGP" neck gets here.

This post is not about comparing quality spec Etc.. Im sure thats been done to death already.

Is either of these from the "Showcase" or "Ready-to-ship" type sections of their sites? Or are they both full custom-made-to-order?

I'm waiting on a Musikraft custom order, and last I knew they're running months behind.

I'm waiting on a BGP neck I ordered around the same time -- I called two weeks ago and they said it was in the CNC, that most of the waiting was just to clear the backlog of orders they had, and that once it hit production it would move way faster. It's taking a while, but they honestly had way more appealing options than Warmoth, and the same build there would have been a bit more (even though they don't offer 100% the same options).

My Warmoth was Approx £20 Cheaper than the BGP neck..

Both maple/rosewood. Looking foward to comparing the rosewoods as the Warmoths is really nice.

I wanted roasted maple/roasted maple on a tiltback with a 9.5" radius and stainless. BGP does one-piece tiltbacks, whereas Warmoth only does scarf joints (which look kinda pants with roasted maple because often it's not matched well), and they also do reinforcement rods, which Warmoth doesn't. I also like their neck and headstock shapes a bit more.

Let me know how your Warmoth one turns out for you, I might go for one for a future build.

Thanks for doing the science on this!

I'd be really interested in some side-by-side comparison shots. If I have a criticism of Warmoth in general, it's that their transition surfaces between the neck contour and the heel and headstock are a little clumsily shaped to my eye. I also have issues with their "pro construction" necks - principally that the truss rod design makes the neck heavy and the fretboard is very thick compared to a Fender style neck.

I always used USACG I'm the past, and have found my projects with their necks more successful. Though a part of that, no doubt, is that I got better at specifying what I want and knowing what I liked as time went on.

Started the thread to give UK buyers an idea of wait tine for necks from USA rather than quality comparison as I thought that angle had been covered..

Ive got the bgp neck masked for nitro job and the Warmoth has already been lacquered so cant compare them as they were when they arrived.

Most noticeable difference in quality is the rosewood on the Warmoth is much nicer.. Il post a pick once ive got lacquer.. And sprayed.. Humidity levels permiting!

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread! Like you said, it's all well-travelled ground anyhow :)

What does interest me is that you were able to order rosewood fretboards - I'm not entirely clear in the CITES rules - did they require documentation? Or was it no problem?

Cheers!

In the last 18 months Ive ordered rosewood (indian) from Musikraft - Warmoth - BGP

Never used USACG as they wont sell rosewood to international customers.
