Gold parts on LPB MIJ Traditional 60s Jaguar
This 2020 MIJ Traditional 60s Jaguar in Lake Placid Blue is SO GOOD. Even though the body is basswood, it feels like a pillow and sounds great. It is significantly lighter than the Alder bodied hybrid 60s. IIRC it is loaded with full sized pots. It came with nice knobs instead of those crappy press on ones. I feel like Fender Japan is showing us how special these are by using the gold logo headstock decal rather than the bold black one.
With all that said, I made a purely aesthetic mod by adding gold hardware. I even shelled out and waited for the limited edition gold OMV kit from Mastery. Overall it adds that little hit of uniqueness to something many others probably have.

Nice!
I normally don't go for gold as it loses its shine easily but this looks great!

That looks spectacular - I'm sure you already know that. Don't knock the basswood - its an incredibly underated wood for guitar bodies and we're likely to see a whole lot more of it being used thanks to the emerald ash borer.
The gold hardware isn't usually my thing but it goes smashingly well with that blue - nice!

As far as I'm concerned all the 2018-and-onwards MIJ Offsets are about as good a guitar as you can get anywhere else. They look expensive compared to what people are used to paying for old, used MIJs, but the quality has taken leaps and bounds.

Looks really good!
I "think" a formite here ownes an original 60's LPB Jazzmaster that came from the factory with gold hardware.
I'm also pretty Keen on Basswood, an underrated guitar wood imho.

very true! I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. It's a keeper.Norrin Radd wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 7:27 amThat looks spectacular - I'm sure you already know that. also very true. I have older MIJ and CIJ that I don't touch anymore. I'm about to list them on reverb as they just don't do it for me compared to the stuff I've either built or the newer stuff from Japan.

Re: Gold parts on LPB MIJ Traditional 60s Jaguar
my only problem with basswood is it dents like CRAZY. every basswood guitar i've had looked like garbage in a couple months (i'm clumsy) whereas my poplar instruments don't (despite not being much harder at all).
i've sold every japanese guitar i've ever owned at a loss due to the soft basswood (including some rad mosrites).
the weight is nice, though, but that's kept me from buying any export offsets despite them looking spectacular.

This is a gorgeous guitar and you don't see gold on Jags every day. Looks great.
I'm also a fan of Basswood. It sounds great and the weight relief is appreciated on something like a Jag.
My '93-'94 MIJ Jag is allegedly basswood, and in nearly two decades of ownership, I've only put two dings into it, which happened ages ago in a scenario that any guitar would get dinged. I have had a number of other guitars that I know for certain were basswood, and they've also held up great.
I don't really understand how people could be doing so much damage to their guitars that basswood makes an appreciable difference on a poly-finished guitar. My nitro-finished alder guitars ding 10x more easily than my basswood poly guitars.
Maybe the way it's working is that, for minor bumps, the hardness of the finish determines whether a mark happens, but with hard ones that actually go deep into the wood, the hardness of the wood makes more of a difference.
For my minor bumps, basswood under a poly finish has proven extremely durable, even more so than alder under nitro.
