Burgundy Mist Jazzmaster and Jaguar
Happy with how these turned out even though they look hot pink in photos. The (obvious) inspiration for the jag is the 50th anniversary model. I had the paint mixed to '59 oldsmobile spec. I finished the necks in a lightly tinted nitro lacquer very thin so that it might wear with use.
* comparing different paints
I'm torn on whether to try aging on my builds because I don't know what I'm doing and the probability of failure is high. I'll probably leave it as-is but considering leaving them in sunlight and just maybe the clearcoat will yellow over time.
I'd love some photography tips. Right now just using my iphone, but maybe theres something I can do to capture things better.

Re: Burgundy Mist Jazzmaster and Jaguar
Looks great!
Is the body finished in nitrocellulose too? I'm not a massive fan of relicing if it means chipping the paintwork with random tools to create the effect of "road worn" damage but I think freezing the body can be a more subtle alternative. The finish is likely to crack in a similar way to that of a vintage body & this will no doubt lead to chips happening over time.
As far as I know you just put the entire body in a freezer for 24 hours (which you probably know already).

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

If you live in a cold climate, you can also put the guitar outside for a few hours until it's adjusted to the outdoor temperature, then bring it straight into the warm house. The thermal shock will cause some of that cool spiderweb crackle effect.

thanks! The clearcoat is nitrocellulose, but the color/basecoat is acrylic. I was worried about compatibility, but it actually worked out OK.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 7:50 amLooks great!

Freezing sounds like the way to go for the lacquer checking I'm thinking of. My parents have one of those long freezers in the basement you see serial killers use so it might just work.

Those look amazing! Please don't relic them. Let them earn their war wounds over time though play and use.

Wow. Just wow! Very beautiful!
I didn‘t believe Burgundy would look so good with tort but hell yeah it does!
This makes me even more looking forward to my Top Bound BMM Jag build! This thread encouraged me once again that I made the right decision (OTM and CFM were in the game too).
May I ask what necks you used?
I was looking for a B&B Jag neck for quite some time now - finally received a CV jag neck yesterday - but honestly: the blocks could be bigger!

Niiiiice! Love BMM and that's a really nice shade of it. I did a tele a few years ago with ReRanch, similar shade perhaps just a smidge darker. Your JM looks killer with the Spitfire guard.

I was shocked when I put it on. I was saving this Spitfire pickguard for the "right" one, but this just looked right.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:43 am

As for the neck: Musikraft. This Musikraft neck is SO nice check out how dark the fretboard is. I got it second-hand which is a bit of a rare find. Had to clean it up a bit, but thats where you find the savings.
I should also mention that I'm a bit of a guitar-parts hoarder. It took me about 6 months to find the right combination for the Jaguar. Sometimes I'll take some stuff off one and try them on another. Truly, guitars are the sum of their parts.

These are absolutely brilliant and extremely well done. Very impressive!
I’ve got 5 Musikraft necks. Each of them is fantastic. After seeing yours, I no longer have doubts about ordering binding or blocks - thank you!

Re: Burgundy Mist Jazzmaster and Jaguar
Musikraft once again. Very well... I’ve really heard a lot of good stuff about them! If only they wouldn‘t be so expensive (with shipping and customs to Europe - even the used neck that I was offered here would have been more than 500€)...why can‘t we have an equivalent of them and stratosphere over here?
