Re: Full-Scale Jaguar (Jazzmaster with Plates)
Super nice! I build a 25.5" scale jag some 10 years ago with a red pine body. Always liked that one.
I'm wondering, what kind of wood are you using? Grain looks different then Alder or Ash. I've seen this kind of grain before, but I have no clue what wood species this is...
I'm considiring a simelar 25.5" hollow body Jm or Jag with some old Mahogany I recently aquired.
I'm gonna follow this one

Cheers!
It's Idigbo, an African medium-lightweight timber a lot like Korina. First impressions are that I really like it - it works well and has a nice 'tap tone', a lot like swamp ash, if that's something you care about!

Love the idea - i actually like the Fender version and your versions equally.
For the 3-pickup concept, i prefer the aesthetic of a non-angled bridge pickup. Here’s a mongrel i created a few years ago (25,5” scale):

Nice! I love your three pickup version and agree all three being non-angled looks best. Since my brain has a hard time processing what lefty guitars look like in context to righties, I did this (I know, I'm sorry ♂️):

At least the decal is the normal way around now!
For me, the Weirdest thing about seeing the image flipped is the vibrato arm position.

Great point on the trem location. I just noticed that and now I can't unsee it.

Re: Full-Scale Jaguar (Jazzmaster with Plates)
lovely clean cutting...What is the distance from the line connecting the centres of the bridge holes to the edge of the neckpocket (Jazzmaster).
I have some plans and drawings but none with that dimension.
I don't think I'll use a pick guard and so could find it manually without too much trouble - but if I knew I'd like to do a test cut..
Thanks,
Rob.

Re: Full-Scale Jaguar (Jazzmaster with Plates)
Hi, I just asked in mods and projects about idea of converting my Bilt to full scale jaguar style guitar:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=119731&p=1678414#p1678414
Can you share how your full scale jag compares to regular JM? How close the rhythm circuit sounds to strat? They have same pot values and scale length so I'd think that it would be quite close. Ofc the trem/bridge differences add to this equation.

Cool templates! I realise this is an old thread but I’m definitely interested in seeing if these progressed any further.
I’m taken with the idea of “plating” a JM body: keeping the RC switches in their JM locations, but moving the LC pots into a Jag position rather than JM. I’ve never owned a jag but sometimes I feel that the volume pot placement on my JMs would be improved by being in the Jag position, right below the bridge. Obviously there would need to be some sleight of hand to mount the plates since JM bodies have cavities where Jags have wood to mount things too. Tbh one of the main driving forces behind this is for easier circuit modding, since plates can be pulled out much easier than full guards.

Re: Full-Scale Jaguar (Jazzmaster with Plates)
Hey Tommy!
Yeah I know what you mean - a few years ago I was looking at producing a set of plates and pickguard to convert a JM into a Platemaster, and hadn't realised up until that point how completely different the V&T knob positions are between the two models. As you say, the routing and screw locations in the body pretty much make it a non-starter to use stock Jag plates on a JM body.
I've made a handful of these and they've come out well, but I don't currently have any pics from customers of complete guitars. I have one in the workshop at the moment for which I'm cutting the pickguard tomorrow, I might just mock up some Jag plates onto it for a picture to show you how it looks.
Since these screenshots, I've altered the shape around the neck pocket to look more Jag-like on the bass side which I feel is a small improvement. It's lots of little things that all add together if you want to carry off a full-scale as a Jag!
Cheers for your interest!
