Stealth alternative pickups, nice. What's the story on that Mustang with an f-hole?

Jaguar pickups in a Mustang (pickguard mounted with custom covers). It has a simple 3-way slide to select between parallel/single/series.

Sounded like a good idea, I built a similar JM body for a board member years ago and he loved it. It was one of the first chambered JMs with a rear contour. The F hole is the same shape as Fender uses, just smaller. I didn't have enough for a JM but a Stang fit the wood well so there it is. Of the 10 guitars I currently have it's close to the favorite.

That's gorgeous. I love it. Charcoal is still one of my all-time favorites.Tweedledee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 6:00 amIt's actually charcoal gray. It almost looks like a dark copper.Tweedledee wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 6:47 pmI just finished this one as a gift for a friend. GFS Surf 180 pickups, which are kind of a humbucking Dynasonic. The body is pine and made by Rosser. Neck from a Squier Classic Vibe Mustang. Lacquer finish.

How did those pickups sound? I remember seeing them and thinking they seemed like GFS Fralin Twangmasters, but couldn't find and demos or reviews anywhere.Tweedledee wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 6:47 pmI just finished this one as a gift for a friend. The best way I can describe them is probably to say they’re really articulate and punchy. The bridge is kind of like some large pole piece Tele pickups I’ve played, but without the hum, of course. I find them great to use with fuzz because they maintain clarity like a single coil.mbene085 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 10:23 amHow did those pickups sound? I used the standard Jazzmaster pickup covers to mount humbuckers. Duncan JB in the bridge and an overwound PAF in the neck position.

My 2009 CP JM with a AV65 JM neck pickup and a Novak GF in the bridge. This has become my favorite (electric) guitar:
My 2018 partscaster with a Sunday Handwound Pickups Micawber set. The neck pickup sounds like rock n roll and the tele pickup at the bridge has the sparkle without being overly bright.

And now I have to know about that bridge! Is it a Tru Arc?

Re: Post pictures of your Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Mustang with Alternative Pickups
As for the bridge pickup, it sounds great. I actually bought this set for the in-between position, especially on my tweed amp. It does more of the Tele twangy thing if I move my picking position to right over the pickup or between the pickup and the bridge. Tim at Sunday Handwound was a pleasure to deal with. I also had him rewind an odd Yamaha bass pickup for me, too. He really knows what he’s doing and his communication is very clear.

It’s a Compton, but I love trying new things out, so I switched to a TruArc, which rocks on the TOM-style posts pretty darn well.Professor Bill wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 7:17 amAnd now I have to know about that bridge! Is it a Tru Arc?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the look of this! But also because of the neck pickup poles being at the top, it kinda looks like it's rolling its eyes! "Stairway to Heaven *again*!?"
