Strat body without usually drilled output jack

Post by FinallyBlossom » Mon Jun 17, 2019 2:16 pm

Hello folks

I recently discovered the Stratocaster Elite that Fender released in 1983:

I love the fact that they built it without the usual position for the output jack (more Tele like).

I was thinking about something like this:

Any idea where I could get a body that is already colour finished WITHOUT the usual position for the output jack? I know: Warmoth
However I tried to calculate the total price and thought it's ridiculously over priced just for leaving out the usual output jack position.

Thanks!

Maybe try one eyed jack? I've never used him, but he seems up for whatever and has a good reputation.

I'm sorry, I've no idea what do you mean by a "one eyed jack"??

I guess he's just migrated it all over to facebook. He used to have a website. At any rate, he'll make whatever you like and has a reputation for good prices and quality.

THANK YOU so much! What an awesome guy. Love his designs! I found something like this (already edited it a bit) on his page:

The symmetric cutaway reminds me a little of a Epiphone Coronet Olympic

Sound Guitar Works can do that, although I'm not sure if it will be any less expensive than Warmoth.

I too prefer the plate mounted jack hole and have sought to acquire such a body. I found a maker on Reverb who would take an order and then decided to assume the task myself, when the time is right. This will allow further adjustments I feel the Strat shape wants for: a slightly more rounded butt and slightly shallower horns. I've found these changes to yield a surprisingly more attractive body, at least to my eye.

Man, I really like the idea of a side mounted jack on a strat. REALLY like it. My strat's kind of a wall piece (my el cheapo first guitar) in that the (ply)wood around the trem is kinda haggard and I don't really trust it anymore. I've kinda thought about building a better replacement for a few years now, and if I ever do it's going to have to have that side mounted jack. It'd really help in the looks department.

Yes, the Dinky S is heading into shredder territory, but I think the effect is pretty subtle on that particular body.

This is a cool project.

I recently acquired an EOB Strat, which has the electronics and switches for a sustainer pickup in the spot where the output jack usually is. To accommodate this the output jack is side mounted in roughly the same position as on a Telecaster. I gotta say, I really dig that look. I've never been a huge fan of the "standard" Strat aesthetic and removing the top mount output goes a long way to fixing that.

Any links to a dealer who sells a blank body without the usual output jack straight away?
