Has anybody put Tri-Sonic pickups into a Jaguar? It sounds like a cool Shadows type mod, but what would the real world results be?

Not mine though. I put some mini trisonics in a Jag. Absolutely love them.

One of Dave Wronski's 'Slackercasters' (Jags) has Tri-Sonics:

The Creamery make a set of Burns-style pickups specifically for Jags.

The Shadows didn't use Tri Sonics...and they are most certainly not cool! ;D

Serious answer though, they are killer looking pickups, great with distortion, and loads warmer than Fender stuff, if the ice pick Jag bridge pickup sound isn't your thing.

A thing I rarely see mentioned when discussing them, (probably not relevant here, but gonna type it anyway) is that there were two types back in the sixties, bar magnet and multi magnet versions. I think now they just make bar magnet types, which is probably for the best. I had a Burns Double Six with the multi magnet types and it sounded shit. Way too wooly for a 12 string 14.5k output!

I have a set of Burns Split-Sonics. I’d like to try the Tri’s to capture some of the sound.

I know The Shadows didnt use Tri-Sonics. Hank said he always recorded with his Strat, never with a Burns. However, my Burns Jazz Split Sound always gets that Shads vibe for me, which is why I’m contemplating a rig like this. I liked my old blue Jaguar (sold to pay for tuition and books back in the day), and this might be a fun mash up

The Wronski video looks like a narrower pickup than a full-on trisonic. I wonder if he's using the mini, like one of my current jags.

The minis are strat-sized and drop right in to a Mustang but require a custom (strat pickup) guard if you don't want to see space at the end tabs and around the pickup due to lack of claw.

Antigua did a fantastic analysis and review of the minis, and found that they have almost no resonant peak (extremely low Q) but a very high cutoff frequency under load. This explains why they sound so clear but not ice picky like a vintage Fender single coil can get, even with their insanely low inductance. He postulated that a 1meg volume pot could work well with them given their low Q. My Jag bears that out. The bridge mini-trisonic is one of my favourite pickups I've ever used in that position. Clear as can be but more balance (more fullness, less scoop) than a type Jag pickup.

You can't know that...it's not true! ;)

They used Burns guitars both live and in the studio from like, '64-70 or so when they were nicked. They just didn't have Tri-Sonic pickups on them, the pickups on a Marvin are called 'Rez o Matic'. Basically a Strat pickup as far as I know.

I'm not a fan...but it's hard to avoid acquiring information about them if you have a passing interest in Burns guitars!
