Thanks a bunch!

Here's some more green goodness. I finally took some decent pictures of my Bronco-Jag. The full rundown of specs should be back a page or two.

Doing the finish during early winter, including leaving it hanging overnight in my shed for a few sub-freezing nights, is the cause of all the checking. As well, for the last seven months it's been the guitar I keep at hand, at the spot I work from, when I work at home. I grab it during slow meetings, or while my computer is working on renderings. It's gotten banged around a bit in this spot, and should look well aged within a few years.

Well, in addition to the builds I'm finishing up right now, my Yamaha SG2 build, the 14 pedal pcbs I've somehow acquired, and my just started kitchen renovation. I have the following projects to add to the list:

1. I have started to rebuild my 1st "Nebula" (my scaled up Talman redesign). I had recently made a new pickguard for this guitar:
(new control plate and eyguitar brass saddles too)
Image

I ran into some problems during disassembly though, the finish is a Krylon product that continued to cure loooong after I assembled it. It was pushed up in a ridge all around the pickguard, control plate, and vibrato. Actually, I had to disassemble the vibrato while it was stuck to the guitar, then used a screwdriver as a pry bar to pop it off. I was able to scrape the finish back level and polish it back up without too much damage, but the area around the vibrato has finish damage.

This was one of my earliest builds and was made completely from plywood as an experiment. I had been contemplating a rebuild on it for awhile already, so this just locked that plan in. I have a Khaya blank that will benefit from some weight reduction via chambering - I've already thinned it down some so the final guitar will be around 1-5/8" - and I have a maple top on the way. I'm thinking of a Khaya/ebony neck, bound to match the body, and a pair of Gemini hb sized Goldfoils in DeArmond spec. I'll likely try and copy the old Fuschia Flake finish with better materials.

2,3,4. I have been developing a new shape for a while now and I have a few "case study" builds planned out to try out my latest ideas. I spent a chunk of cash on laser cutting templates, pickguards, and all sorts of metal plates yesterday. I'm really excited to show these off and I won't be applying any finishes, so hopefully I can reveal more pretty soon.

5. Since finishing up my Green Jazzmaster build 2-1/2ish years ago, I've been patiently waiting for the right Jaguar body to appear to me. I really wanted it at 4lbs or under and those don't' show up very often. Eventually my patience was rewarded, and I'll soon be the owner of a 3 piece alder Jaguar body from Guitar Mill, weighing 3lb 15oz. I'm really happy with the roasted maple/ebony BestGuitarParts neck on my Jazzmaster, so the Jag will get a matching 24" version (my current Jag has an all maple neck built to the same specs already). I already have a nice parchment Jag guard from SneakyT. Hardware and pickups will be fairly standard. When I was finishing up my Jazzmaster, I was really wanting a purple Jag. I still need a purple guitar (Those Squier Jags didn't do anything for me), but now I want to join the metal flake Jaguar club. My favorite colors on vintage Jags are LPB and OTM, so I am leaning towards those types of flakes. Here are a few of the potential options that are catching my eye at the moment

Dark Teal

Blue Tang

Bad Azzz Blue

6. As mentioned above, my current Jaguar has a BGP neck built to the same specs as the new Jaguar neck I'll need, but in maple/maple. I'm contemplating using this neck as the basis for a new Mustang, so that my trio of classic Fender style offsets would have (almost) matching spec necks that I really like. I like the pickups in my Mustang, but the 70s Fernandes body is quite heavy. The neck is pale maple with abalone inlay, so I just need to figure out a body finish that I'll like with that. I already have Mustang templates, so I can easily make the body over the winter and finish it in the spring.

Wow! That look fantastic Ludobag1! That's not far off from what I'm thinking.

I'm considering this "Marine Blue" right now, for it's similarity to an aged Lake Placid Blue. The flakes are probably smaller than the Bad Azzz Blue, but I like the color a lot.

I haven't made any progress on the Jaguar yet. But, I have made the important decision that since I am going to do a metal flake finish, It would be a mistake not to go all out and have a bound neck with a matching headstock. So, as much as I love the necks I've gotten from BestGuitarParts in the past, I am going to get a Musikraft D+B Jaguar neck for this (specs below). And, yes, I am making my own necks for most of my projects now, but I don't particularly want to learn to recreate older Fender neck features, so I'll let the experts handle this one. I'm still pretty set on an aged LPB-esque color. Considering that the body has been sitting around since November, I'm not too worried about their current 12-16 week lead times and it will (hopefully) give me enough time to get a headstock decal ready. Just like with my Jazzy, I'm going for a modernized version of a vintage neck.

I finally had some time to get some decent pictures of the Matsumoku/Aria copy I built. Visually it's pretty much an 1802t, but sonic-ally, it's all Danelectro, with an amazing sounding pair of Novak A6 lipsticks, series wiring options, and a 25" scale. It even has a ZeroGlide nut to get closer to the sound of those metal Dano nuts.

Model/Shape: Matsumoku 1802t
Body Wood: Poplar
Finish: Nature Green Nitro
Neck Wood: Maple
Fretboard Wood: Pau Ferro
Scale: 25"
Radius: 9.5"
Fret Size: Medium (22)
Nut Width: 43mm
Neck Profile: C, 0.81" - 0.88"
Nut: ZeroGlide
Headstock Badge: from a vintage Teisco
Inlays: Side dot only
Truss Rod: Spoke Wheel
Pickups: Novak Lipsticks - low output neck, medium output bridge
Controls: Master Volume (which I moved away from the bridge), Master Tone, Series/Parallel, 3 position toggle
Knobs: Black/Silver Reflector
Bridge: Fender American Pro 52mm
Vibrato: Fender AVRI
Tuning Machines: Gotoh vintage Kluson style
String Tree: Gotoh
Pickguard: Parchment
Strings: 11-54
Weight: 8lb 10oz

Thanks! It's very difficult to photograph. It does lean a bit more olive in real life, very much like that beautiful Bighorn. I had those 1960s olive green tones specifically in mind.

Almost time for metal flake!
I've settled on this "Pacific Blue" color.
