This is the first time in years I've been excited for a guitar design.

Registered just to make it clear just how much appreciate these. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me. Be sure to stick around though, there's lots of other cool stuff happening on OSG.
And another thanks to those of you willing to give criticism. I appreciate your honesty.

Apollo 1 starting to come together. Verifying that I put the pickup routs in the right spot for the pickguard to work. This is a pair of low wind PAFs based on the Gibson MHS. Still need to mark and drill the bridge post locations.

Here a prototype Apollo using a heavily chambered, contoured ash body and a bound Maple flat top. It still needs the control cavity and neck pocket removed. Not the prettiest grain but the figuring and movement is nice and I think it could look great with paint over the open grain to hide the natural color.

Also, I made a tortoise guard for the Thunderbird Artemis. I really don't think this particular tort material is good enough for me. I might have to send a template to one of the newer tortoise alternative suppliers (lava, reptile, spitfire) to get a guard cut from something nicer. I've also been thinking about doing it in a dark lavender metallic with a pearl pickguard. Also, it could be a baritone. :shifty:

*Disclaimer*
I love weird and wacky things but in my guitar life I seem to be veer towards the conservative. No idea why, personal taste.
So with that in mind - I love these. Kudos to you!

Of them all, I went straight for the RHS one in your first photo. I love everything about it - two of the same pickups is my gig (see above disclaimer), the knobs speak to me of cool 1960s Teiscos etc. I'm not a fan of toooo many angles on pickguards/pickups either. (I even use the ashtray on my Esquire.)

The tele bridge didn't work for me, nor the 3x3 headstock. FWIW I don't think even a Gibson style 3x3 would work on these for me.

I do love me a Firebird/Explorer and the above photo seems to channel that - now the FB is a headstock I could love, even though it's a 6 in-line. Have you tried a Starcaster mockup headstock?? (Asking for a friend.)
Oddly, I'm a single-coil guy but those humbuckers above look really fantastic. An inspired mix of historic and cutting-edge - sorta like The B52s?? ;D

And as a LP Jr owner, I'd say what you may already have decided, no switch please on the "Jr." version. I love the simplicity of my Jr. and it's the most versatile guitar I own - seriously! The knobs do all I need and I'm a rhythm/lead player.

Watching with interest!

First coat of DupliColor Indigo Metallic. Should look great with a few more coats.

After a few coats of matte clear, I applied an Ebony grain filler to pop the Limba grain. Now I'm waiting on the weather to add more clear coat. I'll be starting over on the neck for this one as I positioned my headstock template with the high e tuner too close to the nut. The new neck will be maple/Rosewood 6 in line, but it'll still be a 24.75". Think I'll do a black headstock now, to lean in to the SG vibe.
Image

The neck for Artemis #2 got carved and sanded to 120. I did a chunky '65 C shape. Here it is after wetting it down to raise the grain. This is roasted curly maple front and back. This is going with the G&L Jumbo mfd pickups with a black guard on Shoreline Gold.

Thanks man, I'm just following my own muse, in case they turn out too good to sell. :D

Speaking of which, the bound, flat top, chambered Apollo prototype is looking really good now if I do say so. I did a single coat of paint directly on the ash, which really transformed it.

Then I went at the top with an $8 pack of Lisa Frank stickers. 8)

It's going to replace and reuse pickups and parts from the older prototype below, and will be set up in C (CGCGCE) as well, for a fun doom machine.
