After giving away my last bullet mustang project, got the itch to do another for myself. This one is Bright Aqua Metallic, with a rustoleum vintage teal racing stripe, just finished the clear coat yesterday (no final sanding or polishing yet).

I saw an earlier post on this thread with the same color where it looked much darker, but I had to use 3 coats of my remaining Bahama Blue as a base coat over the surf green underneath since I only had one can for the headstock and body. I'm wondering if that made it brighter? I used the whole can (about 5 coats) and it still didn't match the cap.

Image

On the left is how looks unedited from my iphone, on the right I edited the colors to how my eyes see it in person. It has a strange, subtle chameleon effect, where it looks bright electric blue under stark white light, but much greener and darker under natural and warm lighting. Not what I was going for, but I'm pretty happy so far.

It may not have been what you were going for, but it looks fantastic!

It's also basically what I'm shooting for with my Mustang resuscitation once I'm able to actually paint it. :w00t: :? :-*

Here's my recent build in Indigo Metallic. I think it turned out quite well for my first "real" finish job!

Nice, love the indigo with the black pickguard. Especially when I noticed it was a jazzblaster lol Love the Lee Ranaldo vibes.

Figured I'd post the completed build, here it is with Minwax warm gloss clear over the Bright Aqua Metallic. I think the light amber tint did a lot to make the teal more green in hue, though it still looks electric blue in photos under certain lighting. The trade off of the tinted clear was the teal stripe turning a bit TOO green but I can live with it. I'd like to try it again some time, this time with a more blueish stripe color to counteract this.

Also tried fixed the racing stripe line widths and ended up with slightly thicker lines than a standard competition guitar, but the more I look at it the more I like it. Reminds me of the thicker lines on the mustang basses.

Looks great! Btw, the exact same thing happened to me with my jm. The pictures look like LPB. The reality looks like 1997 ford escort. Much more green.

Does anyone know if there is a clear coat that will weather check? Weather on it's own or if purposely induced?

Nitorlack has two lines of nitro with little (golden age) to almost no (relic) plasticizer. In cans and spraycans.

Anybody try one of the metal cast duplicolors? I’m wondering if that would be too much of an aluminum sheen to the finish, or borderline Pearl like. I’m kinda thinking about doing it. But some of these metallic blue colors look awesome. I think Ice blue or Bahama woukd go well with the chrome jag plates and black Pearloid guard I’m planning on. Was originally thinking tort with CFM, but I already have too many black guitars, and no blue guitars, just trying to decide how dark a blue I wanna go. Don’t think I want anything in the super light blue arena. But don’t want navy blue either.

Man I can’t decide which one of these colors I like better. The ice blue looks a lot darker than the fender equivalent that I’m thinking of, and that’s a good thing. I think either color would look good with a black guard really. Decisions decisions.

The metalcast sprays are simply a candy that you supposedly spray over a shiny base coat, or chrome. If you don't have a shiny base coat, you won't get that kind of result!

I've used them over other colours with mixed results. Imgur won't upload for me tonight, so no photos... >:(

Ooh Im dying to see that. I've been debating messing around with the metalcasts over a silver sparkle body I have lying around but I wasnt sure if it really worked like candy or not.

Honestly great job. Keeping notes on this one for a build for sure.

I'm throwing in a boner for Ice Blue Metallic. Just last week had my JM refinished by an automotive body shop. Absolutely love that colour. The Bright Aqua Metallic isn't bad but it's a bit boring (at least in this photo).
