Re: The official Kinman pickups thread
I've ordered a "Thickmaster Extra" (damn that sounds like the name of a sex toy) for my Jazzmaster. I will provide thoughts when it arrives.

I do! I have a Strat with Area 67s in the neck and middle and an Injector in the bridge. I also have another Strat that has a set of Kinman Scoops. I like all of them, but if you made me have to pick between them, it would be the Kinmans all day every day. There is just something about them that sounds "right". LMK if you have any specific questions!OffYourFace wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 11:23 amI use the Dimarzio Area 58/67/61 set in my Strat and they really work for me. Does anyone have experience with both Dimarzio area and Kinman Strat pickups?

oh cool, thank you. I've come to accept the Area pickups as they are. Meaning, they don't sound like real strat pickups but they sound good. They kind of sound like a hybrid of strat and P90.Norrin Radd wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:15 pmI do! I have a Strat with Area 67s in the neck and middle and an Injector in the bridge. I'm going to assume the Scoop model is what is now called the Mayer set? That would def Not be the set I'd choose. I like a strat that has a bit of mids or what technically would be a flatter mid response. That injector bridge is probably a lot more mid heavy than the Scoop model, yeah? I'd probably be interested in the Magnum Opus set for a strat. I guess it also depends on what type of amp you use.

I have Surf Jag bridge and wanted to order a Neck as well - can't really figure out which color I have :atomicwash wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 12:19 pmHere's a color comparison for the new Kinman covers. The white Marr Jaguar has stock Bare Knuckles pickups/covers. The KO Metallic Jag has Kinman's parchment color and the yellow one has Kinman's aged white. The parchment is very close to the Bare Knuckle covers.
The Surf-Jag pickups are amazing. I'd say a nice blend between a Tele and a Rickenbacker.
Unfortunately there's no info on the box and I bought it online from a shop - no info there as well:
Anyone have a clue? Could be Parchment I guess or Ivory? The aged white ones on atomicwash's yellow/orange jag look way darker..

Re: The official Kinman pickups thread
This arrived, and managed to skip the import tax line apparently which is nice. Installed as it should.
It is a LOUD pickup. You know how. Tele bridge pickup can seem more like 10k+ when it's actually around 7k because they feel kinda 'ballsy'? It has that, but Jazzmaster flavoured. Sounds great.
I left the 1MEG pot in place that I had in there just to see if it needed the brightness to help with clarity. Seems about perfect (probably because it was likely designed around the stock 1MEG).
Obviously it's totally silent, lovely. So far, 10/10. At band rehearsal this Thursday I'll test it at proper volumes through the Ballsman.

In your opinion, are the reports true that the Thickmaster leans towards a P90 in flavour?

Yes. But the lower mids are more Fender than P90. It is literally a really thick sounding Jazzmaster tone. For once he has accurately named a pickup
