Importing Musikraft BGP USA to UK

Post by Nudger » Wed Sep 13, 2023 5:44 am

Bought two necks, similar spec/price from Musikraft + BGP USA
Image
Musikraft took under 2 months to UK
BGP took under 3 months to UK
Used the cheapest postage options with both companies.
Both are quality but Musikraft frets will benefit from dress.

Heads up to anyone in UK needing a neck, may need to consider Import Tax/Duties before pulling the trigger.

Musikraft + £65
Best Guitar Parts + £0

which neck do you prefer? Which is the more pale looking neck?

Luv the dark rosewood on the Musikraft.
The BGP board will darken up after an oil.
Ill get back to you in a couple o weeks once fitted regarding preference, needs nitro and time to cure..
Pale one "BGP" Is a D shape.
Ive had one of these Ds from them before and for me it was the best feeling/playing XII neck I have held.
Funny thing is I only went with D cos they dont do C.

Would have used BGP for the CWXII but needed the more vintage correct heel/headstock.

@Nudger: The neck from Musikraft looks absolutely amazing. I'm planning to build a replica of the Electric XII owned by Bob Dylan (only with 9,5 radius fretboard). I also would like to order a Musikraft neck for my Electric XII project.

May you tell me the specs you selected on the Musikraft website? What dimensions did you choose for the heel?

Thank you

If you are building a vintage spec XII the heel will be 60mm. With it not being a standard strat heel, there was a $100 upcharge...
My neck has dark rosewood - pearl - dots - 7.25 radius - Slim C - medium jumbo frets

Looking forward to seeing it come together :freako: Have you sourced a bridge?

@Nudger: Thank you very much. I already have a vintage style bridge.

A luthier suggested me to order the Musikraft neck with 62mm at the heel so that he can build me a body which would fit.

He is looking now for a template or a PDF with the body dimensions. What do you think?

Id go with the 62mm if your guy can make body to suit, I wouldnt be put off with 1mm extra width either side of FB.
Sorry, dont really know anything regards templates.. Our very own Kifla sorted CW XII body for me.
All my other XII builds had non vintage spec "narrower" bridges so used various jazzmaster type guitars as donors.

Been A and B ing for a day and am enjoying the musikraft a smidgen more, probs because its more familiar.. been using it for a couple o months.

Im pleasantly suprised with the similarity in FB colour.
I upgraded my Musikraft order to "Dark" Rosewood but after oiling the BGP has come out in same ballpark!

These necks look so amazing!

I'm thinking all the time if I should order the Musikraft with 62 mm neck heel. I'm wondering if my luthier will be able to make a body that will fit.

Does anybody know if it would be possible to take Jaguar Bass for an Electric XII project?

The bodyshape is pretty similar and the neckpocket is wider enough
