That's going to look awesome! I really like the switch plate too, it's almost exactly what I was thinking of for my VI.

So, it's slowly going ahead. I brought the sunburst VI to the luthier today to route the body and install the pickup. He said it'll take one or two weeks. Is it time to get exited yet?

Yeah it is! I have a rule: once I'm spending money on a project or something that I want, it's time to get excited about it :)

Update: I just picked the first one up from the luthier:

Doesn't it look great? Also soundwise it's a great success and does exactly what I wanted. A thick and dense aggressive rock tone without being muddy at all like a full size humbucker would probably be. Really a big improvement! :w00t: :-*

What I didn't expect was so much feedback!
Maybe I need to tinker a bit with the pedals and the amps, I didn't have a lot of time to really get at it but it really is kind of a bummer. Why can something be so sweet and so cruel at the same time?!?

Looks fantastic!

Feedback may be due to a microphonic pickup? Or the pickup could be vibrating within the ring and so some foam underneath to prevent that could solve the issue.

Thank you guys. Yes, I don't think it'll be an unsolvable problem. The Goldfoil is apparently considerably hotter than the Squier Jag pickups, so tweaking the different gain stages will be plan A and if this doesn't get me some results I'll add some foam as plan B. At first impression I was a bit disappointed by the feedback but meanwhile I'm much more relaxed. This is going to be good.

So before band practice yesterday I spent some time to get rid of that feedback. I tinkered with the different gain stages first but without usable results. Foam under the pickup did a little bit but not enough. Mainly the Rat kept causing havoc as soon as I switched it on. Eventually I just turned back the filter a bit and that did the trick.

My other drive pedals are a Timmy clone, which wasn't a problem anyway as a low gain drive, a Big Muff and a Catalinbread Merkin fuzz. The Big Muff does feedback but not like the earpiercing highs of the Rat and it builds up slowly. It's actually kind of nice. On the Merkin I had to turn down the gain quite a bit. I'm not sure how I like it that way, I didn't use it at the band practice yesterday.

So, yeah, it turned out great. To me the sound is much harmonically richer, has a very nice midrange and feels very tight and solid compared to the stock pickups. I like it a lot. Onwards with the next one!

And number two is done:

(Still kind of struggling with a bit of feedback but the green one behaves better than the sunburst one. I'm waiting for surgical tubing to replace the springs on the minihums but I accidentally ordered from China and now it takes forever… :fp: )

You still in Bremen Zork? I go there twice a year. Love it. Wish I could live there. Where is the shop/luthier at? I need to check it out. I think I'm going in December.

Yes, still in Bremen. It's a very small workshop and more of a sidebusiness. The dude is only there twice a week but does solid work. I'll PM you.
