Lefty Electric XII Build ( is there a demand ) ?

Post by Nudger » Fri Feb 24, 2023 10:22 am

Said I wasnt gonna build no more XIIs but im bored..

Convinced myself I neeeeed to build a Lefty cos I aint done one before...

I crunched the numbers and it would cost me £900 to build. This is minus the bridge that I already have "£80ish" Could slap a gotoh on there :-X but would need to add another £70ish to the pot.
Would be loaded with..
Musikraft Neck
Custom made plates
NOS Daka Knob
XII Type pups
Custom made Compton aluminium bridge
Gotoh tuners

Do you think It could comand £1000 Not about big profit, just luv seeing a project comng together... still! Id rather not lose money on this one IF I go for it.
These sold in last two months
Image
Gold/brass went for £899 others aroung £800

Another option would be a right hand six string version "or left with reverse headstock" with coronado BnB neck..

Sorry, forgot to reply to this. I know a couple of us on here are XII curious. (& bass VI, just in case.) Due to the lack of availability, imo anyone who really wants one would do the project themselves. Personally, I’ve thought about flipping one of your builds to a lefty. They look awesome.

You’d be able to sell it for £1k no problem. Probably on Reverb. It might be slow to move though. I sometimes complain about the lack of options available, yet even good SGs, Teles & LPs at great prices can hang around for a long time.

The longer I write this, the more I’m convincing myself to commission it myself. Just don’t know what I’d really do with a 12 string… :D
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Hmm.. its a poser aint it!
Theres obv people out there who dont have time/skills/inclination to build their own and would rather just buy a ready made XII (right hand).
Sold half a dozen similar Fender inspired XII.
Think this thread speaks volumes regarding demand for lefty F XII insired builds..... It aint there.

Thanks! :) I also think they look awesome.. Kills me each time I sell one :'(

In two month’s time, I’ll probably change my mind & feel like I deserve a XII. The one on the right is a delicious shade of green…

I must say it is jolly decent of you to spare a thought for us lefties.

Is there a market for this - hard to say for sure, but probably.

Being lefty is what pushed me down the path of custom guitar assembly in the first place, as i couldn’t get what i wanted in any shop. Here’s my XII from a couple of years ago (yes i love it and will take any opportunity to show it off!) https://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/v ... 2&start=60

All three hand made by a local sheet metal worker.

Do what youd do with any other guitar, rock the fook outa it!

I luv a XII through a fuzz, Always tuned down half a step. Makes for great playability.
I decided against doing a lefty.. like you said, could always be flipped.

Got another XII coming outa the stable.. LPB with matching headstock "non hockey" and 48mm nut for those with bigger mits.
