Selectravibe - Interesting vibrato mods

Post by GreenKnee » Sun Mar 26, 2023 2:11 am

This came up as suggested on my YouTube and thought I'd share as I've never seen it before. I'd love to try one with the just the B string attached to the vibrato for the B bender/ lap steel sort of vibe.

https://www.selectravibe.com/

Couple of different bits of kit, one hardtails selected strings and leaves the others attached to the vibrato ala G or B bender or any combination thereof.
The other is basically two vibratos, one for the 3 low strings and one for the 3 high strings.

Fun idea! I’d consider one just for the hard-tail use.
For trem use I’m a bit worried about string breakage from rubbing on it.

There's one fundamental flaw with both of these that I can observe...and that's if you still have any type of rocking bridge (IE: not a Mastery or a roller bridge) then the vibrato system as a whole won't work properly and you'll have some strings trying to rock the bridge and some keeping it in place - inevitably causing major tuning issues.

Slap a Mastery on though and it's happy days.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Looks fun, and especially since it's not a hugely overpriced piece of metal like most random guitar things ;D

One thing just looking at them, though, is that they seem to be installed on guitars with the trem placed closer to the bridge (eg. some Squiers etc) than the original, since I can't imagine getting enough string clearance with one of those installed when some of the strings hit the regular screws already... I know this can be addressed with shims and setup etc, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

I've seen Craig's videos (the one in the boat actually) some time ago on facebook and I must say, I like the idea but would have to try it to see if it was for me at all...as I'm not a country player (where isolated G & B would make a lot of sense). But for that price really no harm done and worth a try!

That's my thoughts and I'm just working through with him shipping one to the UK. For £20, why not!?
