Thinline Jazzmaster Build
I've completed a couple of builds 2022 but didn't come aroung posting them so here we go
This was an Ash Thinline body I got custom made :
First I filled the pores with woodpaste :
> don't have pics from the sanding process afterwards <
Next I applied dark grey satin:
Next day I sprayed clear nitro:
I wanted the grain to be black and the body kinda dark greyish or also black but it turned out kinda wild:
I was freaking out first because it looked like a grey tiger / leopard and not like the subtle grain on black/grey that I had in mind...
but luckily that was only directly after spraying nitro and looking at it in direkt sunlight
Already like it better after it had dried :
VERY HAPPY when I finally assembled the guitar with the very dark/orange early AVRI Tort pickguard :
Didn't go with Mastery intentionall - had the bridge and Trem just taken off another guitar that looked better with original Fender Hardware
The Pickups are Curtis Novak JM-HC and JM-PAF that I wanted to sell, no one bought them and they got a second chance
Neck is a cheap chinese b&b one off ebay that was available around 2017
I stained the headstock with the same grey :
No Logo yet but I haven't found get something that goes with a dark background yet...

Very nice! I agree it looks like a grey tabby cat!
What's the story with the switches in place of the roller knobs?

That thing looks awesome! Nice job. The finish is very cool and the matching headstock is <chef's kiss>. As you called out, that tort color pops on the dark gray finish. If it were me, I would just put a gold Fender waterslide on the headstock like the custom color black JM's after they started matching headstocks in '62.

Re: Thinline Jazzmaster Build
They look cool but serve no purpose - sorry to disappoint
Had them laying around and installed them mostly because of the matching white color... they aren't wired
I'm not a fan of the rhythm circuit and I have 2 JMs with humbuckers where I wired split coil and parallel/series switching options via switches but it turned out after wa while that to me all of that is rather useless tonewise... I never use those options and it's too much hassle to wire it all up...
I prefer guitars with simple wiring that do 1 thing/sound really well

Oh ok cool!
I don't mean to derail your thread, so let me know if I should pipe down! But I'm working on a very special customer guitar, which is pretty much a Jag with two humbuckers. We ordered special humbuckers that each have one coil with Fender rod magnets, and we're doing series / phase between the two pickups (so we hope there will be some cool sounds there!)
I mistakenly thought I could mount Switchcraft DP3T Mustang switches on there, but the route is too narrow for the switch body even though the switches fit the holes. So I improvised and have been developing this 3D printed rocker switch assembly (shown in gross red for the prototype, still looking janky!)
Basically this allows mounting a micro slider switch, the same kind I ordered custom to make the NOS Minimoog Rockers work on the Jaywalker. Because they were a custom size, I had to order over 1000 of them so I'm finding ways to get through them!
Awesome guitar you've built, thinline JMs have a unique sound don't they?
