Got a couple of necks...what bodies would you pair with?
I've got a few necks and quite a few parts in my bin...jaguar pickups, humbuckers, jazzmaster pickups, etc.
I've never done much guitar work, but would like to learn by building a guitar around these necks. Obviously, I'll have to buy tools and all that do this and I don't mind making the investment because the cost of taking a guitar to get a pickup swap and set-up is becoming too much!
What tools and resources would you recommend?
I am pretty handy/mechanically inclined. I've been working with my hands for two decades (bicycle mechanic + manual machinist + welder), so I know my way around tools, but obviously this is all going to be new to me.
Anyway, I've got these two necks...what bodies would you pair with them? I was thinking something non-jazzmaster/jaguar, but still offset.

Re: Got a couple of necks...what bodies would you pair with?
I would consider the basics for making a body would be a table saw (or jigsaw if you're stuck for space) and a router. A pillar drill will also help massively over a handheld.
If you can get blanks at the correct thickness then you can forgo the need for a thickness planer/sander too.

Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I say the Bilt neck needs a 7/8 size Starcaster shaped body, but solid and thin, with SG style contours. The Jag neck should be on a jagstang-done-right.

I'd put that Bilt on a Marauder body that is being offered here. Offset, cool, new options available to obtain this rare bird, and just a great instrument. I can't put mine down. Get the body to match it. Copacetic can color match bodies to necks perfectly btw.

Good to know! Thanks for the advice on that.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 12:36 pmI would consider the basics for making a body would be a table saw (or jigsaw if you're stuck for space) and a router. A pillar drill will also help massively over a handheld.

I probably phrased everything wrong. I meant I'll get a body made (probably by people on offsetguitars.com) and assemble it. That's the next thing I want to learn how to do. It's getting too expensive to pay someone to do set-up and swap out pickups, etc.

Hmm...that is an interesting one. Does anyone make a starcaster body with all those contours?countertext wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 12:49 pmI say the Bilt neck needs a 7/8 size Starcaster shaped body, but solid and thin, with SG style contours. The Jag neck should be on a jagstang-done-right.

Funnily enough, the Bilt neck came off a Marauder-esque build. That build was converted to a 27" scale baritone...lol.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:04 pmI'd put that Bilt on a Marauder body that is being offered here. Not that I’m aware of, but there are OSGers that could do it.javier-san wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 8:37 amHmm...that is an interesting one. I always thought a meteora would look cool with the starcaster/marauder headstock..
