Looking for some specs on screws for a jazzmaster bridge

Post by Norrin Radd » Fri Nov 27, 2020 1:53 pm

I’m wondering if anybody can tell me what the size the two screws are that mount the bridge into the thimbles on a vintage style jazzmaster?

Thank you!

You mean the conical tip grub screws that set the bridge height (#66 below) ? On vintage they're #4-40 x 3/8" long (9.5mm). But a little longer is good too. They use a 0.05" allen key.

If you are looking to replace those, mind that the originals and US RI's are Imperial treaded. Most aftermarket and MIJ/CIJ/MIM/Allparts, etc is metric. And the also use a different Allen wrench.

Yes, metric ones are M3 with 1.5mm allen key. Some people may unfortunately discover that when their "all original" vintage guitar's bridge screws won't take a 0.05" allen key, because the guitar has a (metric) replacement bridge.

I’m talking about the screw(s) being adjusted in this photo:

I cannot tell which size these are, but I’m sure you can find some documentation with specifications online. It’s not a usual type of guitar, and it’s hard to tell the exact size of the screw.
You can also find someone who owns such a guitar and ask them to measure it. I know a guy who might have one like this or, at least, the one that looks like this.
Usually, when I lack a screw and need an unusual one, I go to scrooz.com.au and search for it there. You can also text their customer support and ask them to help you find the necessary one if you have issues finding it on the website.

This is not an easy figure to find!

I had an issue with an American professional bridge and they’re 4-40 threads on those (by 5/8” and 1/4” for the bass and treble post respectively)

What bridge are you looking for exactly?
I can check my AVRI and see if they’re the same threads?
I don’t have a vintage bridge or access to one.
Let us know…
