^Guys, its fine and dandy that your guitars turned out alright but that's not what this thread is about. The issue here is how they're handling this one specific order.

Fedex has nothing to do with roughly 90% of the issues this guitar has.

MJT needs to own up to their fuckups.

The OP asked about our experience with MJT. Having just got that body in, it seemed relevant to what they were asking. Yes their order was messed up, but one screw up doesn't mean all of their work is. The thread seemed to be about if what happened to the OP was the norm. I posted mine to show that for me, it is not the norm.

Thanks! Hopefully they nail the silver bust they are doing for me on my Jag-Stang. :)

Ah ok. I thought it was Matt and Jenny, not Mark. My bad. For what it's worth, this burst just came in this past month and I love how it turned out. Again though, I went relic not closet clean.

Wow, they've gotten a lot better at bursts. For a number of years, every burst of theirs that I saw had something wonky or uneven about it. This is much improved.

I think it’s fine and dandy that I posted my experiences.

I've been using their bodies for a few years now and always been happy but I wouldn't seek them out for a brand new looking body. Even the Closet Classic I got from them years ago had some wear and marks on it but they also told me up front, they don't do new finishes, only finishes with some degree of aging. Their Closet Classic will still have some wear, it is meant to replicate a well cared for 50 year old guitar, not a brand new one.

Maybe check out someone like Tone Bomb or DoomBloom for a "like new" guitar instead of someone who specializes in relics?

The J Bass control plate is just a simple and pure f*** up, no way around that.

Finally finished up this P! Bass this past year. Order the body from MJT last June and got it at the end of the summer last year. I've been happy with how it turned out but this is the condition I requested it be in.

Only the body is from MJT, everything else is from somewhere else. This initially started as a simple project to simply replace only the body on my old P Bass and it got out of hand. Only the neck plate (Glendale Fatboy) and the bridge (Gotoh) remain from the original.

Hah, I think many of us here can relate to this "guitar/bass of Theseus" scenario.

Yeah... it started off with such meager intentions, I ordered the body from MJT and while I was waiting, I figured "may as well replace the pickguard", "Maybe some new pickups would be nice", "well since I'm replacing the body, I should do the hardware too" and so on. When the body came in, it didn't fit the neck at all so I ordered a new neck. And new tuners. And like I said, it all got out of hand so gradually.

the pickups are from Rumpelstiltskin
the pick guard and shield are from Fender
the rosewood thumb rest is from some dude on Reverb
the aged nickel and oversized strap buttons are from some hardware place in France
the neck plate and neck screws are from Glendale
the pick guard screws and control knobs are from Callaham
the neck is Allparts

I really should see if I can just buy the Callaham pick guard screws in bulk, I use them one all my guitars. They just hold up really well and resist stripping like a champ!

My latest Jazzmaster finish from them was not great, but some of their work is top notch. I just traded a guy for this custom cut Pine Tele body with contours finished by MJT thats been paired with an American Strat neck finished by Shabat Guitars. I'm head over heels for the finish in person...and the whole guitar for that matter. I have no idea if this is an older or newer finish from MJT, but the relic and quality looks and feels great to me.

I think they've only recently started offering Teles with a pine body. Just in the last year or so.

Never had an issue with MJT bodies. I’ve owned about a dozen now. If you want to be safe - only order from the eBay auctions - that way you know exactly what you’re getting.
