Agreed.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:28 pmRothko & Frost decals are the best. They're so thin, it only takes a couple of coats of clear to blend them in...
I've always been a bit anal about being able to see the edge of a decal (and hate vintage guitars that have decals that have become discoloured & tinted so they stand out even more).
I was contemplating cutting very close to the edge of my decal to disguise this but ended up reading about how easily it blends in. After a single coat of clear the edges had totally vanished.
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

I actually love the look of Vintage Fender decals, how they are all embossed and you can see the edges. The browning and patina looks cool too.
But for what I am doing, I definitely like the edges to be blended in. It's like magic. People who don't know much about the build process always ask me how I do it.

Just popped the logo on.
I'll wait a few days for it to cure before spraying the clear over it.

Headstock and decal looks great. Straight out of the 70's like a Scooby Doo episode.

It would be most excellent. Body blue, pickguard green, pickup covers orange. Done.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Finally reunited my Bass with its case.
I am unsure whether this case was what the bass originally came with. I suspect the case is much older.
Basses made around 1979 / 80 were plastic/nylon? with the huge Fender logo.
Does anyone know if basses made around this time were still realeased with this vintage style case?
Also. This bass is now fully restored. I got it in 1995. Somehow convinced my parents to buy it for me. It was $650 AU.
It's mostly original apart from the refin by Custom guitar works (Melb)
Original pickguard and knobs.
(I patched up the gutty works seen in my previous posts)
I had the pickups rewound by Mrfabulousguitars (Melb)
I rewired it with 250k CTS pots, Switchcraft jack.
The ashtray covers are replacement import ones.
I'm trying to source some case candy. but I'm not willing to spend hundreds doing so.
I'll try and find some repro hang tags/manuals.
And here's me playing it in April '95, you can sorta guess what kind of music I was into.
And also, sorry, I know it's not an offset but I had to show it off anyway.

So good to see everything put back together! I love a good shoreline gold instrument.
And I must say, that last picture smells like teen spirit.
