Candy Apple Red MJT Smith Project Finished Pg. 2
Should be a fun one. I made a Smith style Jazzmaster before. Actually if you google image search Robert Smith Jazzmaster, my build is one of the first pictures. LOL
I wanted to take another stab at it, but less traditional. Wiring and such will be the same, but I won't be trying to make it look like his. Just feature that extra pickup.
I modded a mint pickguard to fit the pickup and cut it mostly with my dremel. I also drilled out the thimble holes.

Then I routed space for the pickup in a nice CAR MJT Jazzmaster body I got.

I applied one coat of shielding paint so far and I squared off the tremolo rout.

Should look really nice when it is all done.

Wiring is all done. I just need the roller wheels, but they work fine.

Looks tasty.
You'll be using the rhythm circuit controls to control the middle pickup, I imagine?
What are you going to use the slide switch for? (I used it for stereo/mono switching on my JM/Lipstick strat - which will soon be a JM/Lipstick Marauder - same colour as yours.

Up switches to just the middle pickup going through the upper pots. Down switches to the Jazzmaster pickups going through the lower pots and toggle.

I had no idea you'd done one before! This looks great. I'm impressed by your pickguard routing job. That's one thing I've never even considered attempting. I've taken a file and sandpaper to them before to get something to fit right, and I feel like I managed to even mess up the look just with those simple tools!

Ah yes of course. That's why I used Jag switches and an extra volume pot on my build...

Re: Candy Apple Red MJT Smith Project
It is a easy way to toggle between the two options.
It is pretty far off perfect, but I think it is pretty good. I appreciate the compliment. I kind of just took my time and did a little at a time until the pickup fit. Then it was sort of the same when I routed. I kept going deeper a little at a time until the guard would lay flat and line up with the neck pocket and bridge thimbles.mbene085 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:01 pmI had no idea you'd done one before! This is the first one I did.

Looking more like a Jazzmaster. Just waiting on some more parts.

The CAR is sweet but you can’t beat black and tort.

Black and tort is nice. I kind of like that this has a similar setup, but isn't trying to look like his Jazzmaster.
I ordered a neck for it. Just waiting on parts and such. I have developed this bad habit of building bodies and not feeling like doing the neck.... LOL

I am not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing. I really enjoy doing the work.... but I end up with piles of guitars. LOL

Well, I enjoy seeing what you're up to, so it's all good from my vantage point.
