Trem Arm Issues

Post by rrtxoso » Tue Mar 25, 2014 9:27 am

For some reason, the trem arm is slightly too large to enter the collet. Is this user error (somehow) or what?

Assuming you have the correct arm for your trem, this is pretty much it.

Thanks. The arm is now an inch and a half above the top, takes a great deal of force to rotate, and I cannot be removed, no matter how much force I use. I am fairly certain that this is the correct arm as it was in a bag with other paraphernalia. I was planning on playing it out tonight, which I can no longer do.

so is it now too close to the body? I'm sure that it can be removed, but you need to pull hard (and hold down the body, best to do this when your guitar is in the hardcase). Put some WD40 into the collet, this should help!

But: did you set up your trem spring properly? maybe it's set far too low!!!

Too tall. The spring and lock are correctly set up, but the arm is stuck, like the hole and arm are mismatched sizes.

Seriously. I can't get it out, and have tried everything I can. I can barely rotate the arm, and I got help from my dad, used pliers, etc, with no luck. Help!!

Loosen the strings to get rid of the tension (or just cut them all off) and then unscrew the trem plate so you can see underneath. What does it look like? Take pics.

It should look something like this:

The arm is not poking out of the bottom, it's trapped higher up than it should be.

I'd loosen that nut you see in the pic and see what happens.

I tried to force it out, but couldn't manage. Austin Vintage Guitars couldn't get it with a vice and a torch. It has a new unit on there now.

Had the same problem, to fix it I very gently, very slightly loosened the connector from the inside with a correctly-sized Phillips screwdriver. Now fits perfectly. It's an odd problem, I expected it to be too loose...
