After you realign the wheel, before re-tightening it, rotate the wheel a pinch so that the screw doesn’t find the old indentation in the pot shaft & cause it to drift back to where it was before.

It might also depend on which side of the cutout the knob is binding on. Sometimes you can’t move the knob on the bushing as it is already bottomed out on the pot. In that case you may need to add a washer on the pot to move the shaft enough to give you room to play.
