I want to remove my buzz stop...
I want to remove my buzz stop...
OK, I wanna try my Jag without its buzz stop, as I'm worried it's forcing the bridge forward and affecting the intonation of the guitar.
Thing is, I can't afford to get any of my guitars set up right now, so does anyone know of a decent guide to setting up a Jaguar? I want to get this right, cos our beloved offsets are tricky little buggers to set up (as evidenced by all the crappy setups we see in stores all the time).
I've never set up my own guitars before, so be aware you're dealing with a total novice...

so yank the strings, pull off the buzz stop, restring, check the intonation and action and I'll bet everything will fall right into place.

Rob - Take a look at the '63 Jag article at the top of the project forum menu. There's a few tips in there (page 3) about how to set up your bridge and stuff.
There's a bunch of us here to help you if you need it. Anything is reversible (as long as it aint hard broke ) , so don't be afraid to try. As Aug said, it may not even need anything if the setup is fairly decent already.

I tried a Buzz Stop on my JM, but am much happier without it. Besides the guitar looks better without it, and that has to count for something!

i may not be the right one to slag down any bridge-problem-solving device since i have T-O-Ms on all my JMs but i must say i absolutely hate buzz stops. i tried using one for a while, but for me it didn´t improve anything.

Re: I want to remove my buzz stop...
Anything that hinders the creamy feel of the Jag/JM trem is a killer for me, so I've never liked Buzz Stops based on other's opinions alone. As far as complications, I can't see why there would be any, the buzz stop just pulls the strings down behind the bridge a little, it should not affect intonation much if at all.

I just recently ripped the buzzstop from my JM and also restored the proper metal saddles after using graphtec ones. I noticed a distinct improvement - I recovered tone and it sounds more like a JM should sound.
