jazzmaster hardware confusion
Hey all. I'm starting to think about hardware upgrades for my new Squier Jazzmaster and would like some guidance and clarification please, if that's ok. I've been trying to do some research on bridges and tremolos, but it's a bit overwhelming with all the different options. My questions are below:
Bridge -
It looks like I have the "mustang" style bridge already, which is what I want. I found the Fender American Pro one on Amazon for 80 bucks. Is this significantly better than the one on my Squier? Or no?
Tremolo -
I can hear some noise coming from the trem. From what I've read, this is common. I also want one with a lock on it. And the Fender logo as well. So I definitely want a new one.
From what I've read, the AVRI one is popular. But it's rather pricey, and I understand I would have to buy a new trem arm too. I see the Japanese one is significantly cheaper. Is this a good low cost alternative to the AVRI? Will it fit on my guitar? And can I use my stock trem arm with it?
Thank in advance.

The Fender Japan vibrato sucks, and would probably be a downgrade on what you already have.
Just save longer for the AVRI or equivalent American made one.

In all honesty. I found the vibrato on my Squier VM Jazzmaster better and quieter than the one I have now on my MIJ '66 Jazzmaster... Saving up for the AVRI is WELL worth it.

Ok well, looks like splurging on the AVRI is the way to go. Thanks for the advice guys.

EDIT:
I found this kit that comes with the trem and arm. Is this a good deal?

It's fairly normal in price. I think usually the AVRIs are about $80-90 on the low end and the arms are around 20 or so. You can probably find a better deal on eBay/Amazon/Reverb if you look for the parts individually, but you're not going to be saving *that* much.

The AM Pro 9.5 is an upgrade out of the box over the stock squier bridge. Feels sturdier, springs/intonation screws aren't loose so they don't rattle, and the post screws don't sink with hard playing. But a little bit of blue loctite in a few places and the squier bridge gets you to 80% or more of the AM Pro.
I believe the AM Pro bridge saddles are made of a different metal as well, but I didn't notice a drastic tonal change. The guitar just feels a bit more put together with less noise coming from the bridge area.

Oh thank you, I forgot I asked about this. Yeah, I'd be curious to know what metals these bridges are made of. I did some searching but I can't seem to find anything. In any case, I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on the Am Pro bridge. I appreciate the input.whitelion wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:30 pmThe AM Pro 9.5 is an upgrade out of the box over the stock squier bridge. They're made of brass.

And the Staytrem is an improvement on the AmPro - but you'll be waiting a while!Soopnotch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 12:07 amOh thank you, I forgot I asked about this. Re: jazzmaster hardware confusion
It depends - both are very well machined, sturdy and reliable, with relatively minor differences (no springs on Staytrem, different alloys, slightly different sound). I have both, and I find the Am Pro one not inferior to the Staytrem - just different.
