There are lots of answers to this question on other forums but I thought I'd get some answers from the fine folks on here:
I love shorter scales and have a couple 25.5" guitars. Say I tune down 1-2 half steps and then capo up 1-2 fret to recover standard tuning at a shorter scale length. What would be different from playing straight out in standard other than the reduced scale length and string tension? Would there be any drawbacks to doing this on an electric guitar? On an acoustic guitar?

No major drawbacks. If you have yuge frets tuning may be a little bit squirrely, and you will likely need to tweak your intonation a little.

Yeah, capoing the first fret on a 25.5” gets you pretty close to 24”. Lots of people like playing with capos (and zero-fret guitars) because it removes the sound and feel of the nut from open chords.
