Eyguitar WRHB Jazzmaster pickups?
I noticed that Eyguitar has some WRHB style JM pickups on their site for cheap ($38.50 each). Has anyone tried these?
For the price I'm tempted to try it out, but I'm worried that they are just generic humbuckers inside a JM cover.

Honestly, if they're not just generic humbuckers in a JM cover I'd be shocked.

They're not generic Gibson style humbuckers. They've got 12 alnico rods for polepieces, so they're not true WRHBs, but you can think of them as being like an alnico (Novak/Fralin/whoever) WRHB minus the adjustability of threaded rods.
There was someone on the forum who had installed a pair, but I forget who that was.

Here's the thread, along with links to sound clips. I've looked it up a few times as I plan to try a pair of these out sometime in the near future.

OK, just looked them up. They do look interesting, but you can't really tell what's going on under the cover... I wonder what the bobbins in there look like geometry-wise, even if they are stuffed with AlNiCo slugs.Embenny wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 11:58 amThey're not generic Gibson style humbuckers. I say that because I imagine we're talking about these.

its weird they also have a version with adjustable pole pieces and normal looking WRHB pickups with both adjustable and non adjustable poles, have a feeling that the adjustable ones are just built like a generic humbucker but it would be cool if they weren't.

So, since I am a complete idiot and ordered a loaded CVJM body last night to go with the spare CVJM neck I have...
Anybody try these yet?

Umm, I provided a link above to a thread where someone on here tried them and has a youtube video comparing them against a few other pickups.

You know... The funny thing is I realized that after I posted but I figured I'd leave it just in case anybody else did. LOL

Re: Eyguitar WRHB Jazzmaster pickups?
Just wanted to bump this thread because I was thinking about these pickups and found a Reddit post about them with sound samples.
Honestly, it seems like you couldn't ask for more at that price. They're wound a little lighter than typical WRHBs, including Lollar Regals etc, particularly in the neck position. 8.2k neck/9.2k bridge. Based on the recording, I assume that's AWG 42 like traditional WRHBs.
The JM-sized Regals, for comparison, are 10.7k in the neck and bridge, so 30% hotter in the neck and 16% hotter in the bridge than these.
Considering how muddy I find "proper" WRHBs, I suspect I'd actually like these much more. 8.2k is not far off a low-ish PAF wind, and alnico rod polepieces are brighter than steel pole/bar magnet pickups in an identical bobbin, so they're probably more up my alley than either WRHBs or PAFs.
I've got an ancient Warmoth parts build that's been sitting re-disassembled for like 3-4 years that I've been resurrecting the last couple of days, and I think I might grab a pair of these to try in it. They seem like they'd be a good contrast with my Kinmans and they're like $79 a pair, so it won't be a disaster if I don't like them.
Plus, I'll finally get to tick "Jazzblaster" off my OSG bingo card.

I'm a big fan of slightly "underwound" WRHBs, I think they sound more ideal than what is "traditional".
Creamery winds his JMWR at 8.7k (Bridge) 7.6k (Neck) and it sounds greeeaaatt

Re: Eyguitar WRHB Jazzmaster pickups?
That's not slight! That's 30% lower than Novak and Lollar, like a 5.5k PAF or 4.2k strat pickup! But that sounds like it would be totally up by alley. 7.6k is essentially a widened Firebird pickup at that point.javier-san wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 11:29 pmI'm a big fan of slightly "underwound" WRHBs, I think they sound more ideal than what is "traditional".

So now it’s clear that firebird pickups are the real answer.
I don’t think you’re getting a set for $80 though.
I feel like I should get a set of these for that inevitable rainy day when I want to yank the squier mascis(es) again for no reason.

Not for $80, but you can get a pair of D'Urbano Magnetics Firebirds handwound by Fab himself in Australia for $105 USD for the pair on sale ($115 or so without the sale). I hadn't checked in a little while but wow - the AUD has really tanked. So now I'm wondering if this should just be a Firemaster instead, ugh.Chippertheripper wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 5:23 amSo now it’s clear that firebird pickups are the real answer.

But I stick Firebirds into everything at some point. They're basically my ideal pickup out of all the original 50s/60s stuff. Kinmans are my ideal pickups out of the modern options, but I'm not getting them for $105/pair, that's for sure. I could stick D'Urbanos in 3-4 guitars for the price pf one pair of Kinmans.
