Mustang Tremolo-Arm falling out

Post by skeletonsmith » Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:16 pm

A Question regarding my CIJ Compstang... I just found out that it's totally tuning-stable with Trem-Use. Problem: The Arm falls out and when tightened, 5 Minutes later it's loose again.

Saw some Folks put Screws or other Stuff into the right Side of the "Cigar".
What's the best Method for you?
Thanks in Advance!

I used a small section of heatshrink tubing between the grub screw and the arm. Arm could still be moved easily but there was never any way it was going to fall out.

I took it off, threw it in the case and forgot about it forever

I've never met a Mustang that had stable tuning with vibrato use...modern or vintage. They have ALL been awful (and I for sure know how to set up a guitar). Terrible design really.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

This dude seems to do okay (albeit this is a very short clip):

But yeah, my experience with the Mustang I had was that it would not stay in tune with any amount of vibrato use. Would love one with a Jag/JM vibrato.

Well, there's always exceptions of course. And I've seen a handful of people say theirs is fine but 64882663277262882 mentions of it being infuriating.

Mustang vibratos seem to have the hit/miss ratio of The Buggles' back catalogue. Leo should have just stuck to what he did best and reappropriated the perfectly functional and reliable JM/Jag unit.
