Fender Vintage Tuners on Squier JM?

Does anybody know if these will fit a Squier VM JM without any modyfications to the headstock?

The only Fender USA part that I know fits in an Indonesian Squier is the tremolo. Everything else is nonstandard. Are you sure about those tuners Johnny?

I recently tried to put some Japanese made Kluson style slot-end tuners on my Squier Paranormal Offset Tele, the posts didn't fit through the ferrules. The guitar has low-end vintage style tuners on it, chrome with no writing on them anywhere. So I'd say no. I might take some measurements later.

Pretty sure I just swapped them over on my Starcaster but I may have had to switch the ferrules to the ones the tuners come with too, I can't remember tbh.

Okay, take my advice with a pinch of salt then...I don't deal with many Squiers

The tuners themselves should have the same footprint as the ones on your Squier. The bushings are the crucial part.

Take one of your bushings out and measure precisely the diameter of the tuner holes on your guitar. Order a set of tuners with same diameter bushings.

If your new bushings are slightly too small, you can wrap a tiny strip of paper or electrical tape around the fluted part to ensure a snug fit.

FWIW, several reviews on Thomann for the first set you linked to (the Fender ones) mention they fit Squier CV Starcasters and Strats. One review for the second set (the Klusons) says the bushings are slightly too large for a Squier CV, but others say they fit OK.

Gotoh make vintage style tuners that come with two sets of bushings (8.5 and 9 mm I think) ― item number SD91-05M.

In the worst case scenario, Thomann have got a pretty good return policy IIRC.

Maybe I must ask it like this: which forum member has upgraded their Squier VM JM tuners and what brand and type did you use and how did it fit?

The problem with the name "Classic Vibe" is that as of 2018 or so, it doesn't really point to a unified series of guitars. Prior to that, all CV guitars were made in one Chinese factory and USA parts could be swapped in without issue. Now we have Indonesian CVs, and at least one line of Chinese CVs (though not the original factory). It's a bit hard to keep up

Having said all that, it may be correct that the bushings are really the only important factor, and if so, it's probably worth buying the ones from Thomann and returning them if they don't fit in the original CV bushings.

My guitar is an indonesian Vintage Modified. I think around 2012

You’re right - I got lost in the mix of terminology. To be clear, Indonesian VM offsets essentially got rebranded as Classic Vibes a few years ago, joining the Chinese-made Strat/Tele/etc CVs that we’re around since 2009, hence my rant about Classic Vibe not having a specific meaning anymore. All the same non-standard spacing and hardware should generally be the same between the two (VM Jazz and CV Jazz).
