Pot value for an Ampeg Lucite?

Post by Pacafeliz » Sun Sep 25, 2022 9:31 am

Hey folks!

A (possibly) quick one here...
My old Ampeg Lucite (w/swappable pickups) has this very cheap looking pot in it:

470k + F ???!

The guitar sounds powerful but kinda dark, as if there's treble missing. Also, fast volume drop as soon as I turn the pot.

What would you recommend to put in there for best/better results?

Thanks!

Pat.

500k pots are notorious for having crappy tapers. 470k is functionally the same.

A nice 1M audio taper is probably the ticket. It'll sound a bit brighter and taper more smoothly.

IIRC F is code for reverse logarithmic ("anti-log") taper.

if you take that ancient Preh pot out, save it or try your luck selling it on eBay. Some people like them.

Here is info about what originally would've been in there:

I can’t verify from personal experience, but according to the document it looks that way!
