FYI: Free US shipping at StewMac 2 Days Only
Just an FYI, in case you need a neck shim or two, or some other small things and you've been balking at their regular shipping costs. Today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday).

I'm half tempted to go through their website and find the cheapest, heaviest items in their inventory and place multiple separate orders to various friends and family members addresses just because I am and will always be upset about their extortionate "normal" shipping charges...

Yeah, as a Canadian, I only buy from StewMac when I want enough things to make their stupid yearly membership worthwhile, since it's barely more expensive than the shipping on a single order.

It's even better being in the UK...their automatic shipping calculator is enough to make you cry when you want anything shipped across the water.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Are their normal US shipping rates really that bad? I ordered a few big buffing wheels and some other things earlier this year, and it was only twenty-something shipping, not a small light package. I had to ship a couple small packages with UPS this year, less than half a pound and eighth cubic foot, and it cost $12-13 each.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

they're not terrible, but if you're ordering something small, like potentiometers or shims, it may seem excessive. If you order from them three times a year, a membership is pretty much a wash. If you order more than that, it's a pretty good ideal.tammyw wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 6:58 amAre their normal US shipping rates really that bad? Re: FYI: Free US shipping at StewMac 2 Days Only
I only end up needing something from them like once a year, and it's always something small and virtually weightless (like a shim), but they still charge $12 to ship that thin, weightless $12 piece of maple... even though it only costs them $4-5 to ship even with the cost of packaging factored in; so I end up feeling extremely and resentful of them that once-a-year that I order anything from them...

I mean, maybe if they sent it first class mail, uninsured, no delivery confirmation, then it would only cost $5, but there's not much you can ship for $5 these days.

Re: FYI: Free US shipping at StewMac 2 Days Only
I was an early enthusiast of both Amazon and eBay in the 90's; food and gasoline are probably the only things that I haven't bought exclusively from the internet for the past decade. I'm pretty sure I've had literal thousands of items shipped to me from all over the US in the past 25 years, almost all of them via regular First Class mail; maybe I've just been lucky, but in all those deliveries I've only ever had one item "lost" and one other arrive damaged.
It's probably just one of my failings as a human, but I just can't help but feel a bit chaffed when charged $12 shipping on a wooden business card or a one ounce piece of plastic...
