Has anyone used the Xavier Flatwounds?

Post by rhythmjones » Wed Sep 14, 2022 4:58 pm

I'm always on the hunt for good bargains on flatwound strings. I've settled on La Bella Jazz Flats as the best combination of price sound and quality. They have that nice fundamenal Tal Farlow "thud" tone. Plus they react well to dirt and rock playing.

Thomastiks are just too damned expensive and Chromes just don't have the tone, plus I break them a lot.

But these Xaviers are 12 sets for $37 bucks. If they are even halfway decent, it'd be huge.

GFS makes good enough stuff that I'd be willing to consider them. Anyone tried them?

No, but I just paid NZ$16 for a pair of Rotosound Top Tapes, which is just cheaper than many roundwounds.
Only available in 12-52 with two things I love: a wound G (24) and they're made of Monel.
I've used Monel strings on my acoustic for a few years now so these were a no-brainer.
I'm using them on an Esquire and they're great so far!
