Pickup foam choice makes a difference

Post by chemattstry » Thu Sep 01, 2022 3:20 pm

My JM Rose Picasso pickups were too low for my taste and the cheap household door seal foam didn’t seem to be dense enough to get them up in height. I bought the Fender brand foam and it really is much more dense and higher quality. I paid out the nose for it, I got those pickups a little higher and it breathed new life into my Classic Vibe JM.

As far as I recall I had the opposite experience - I found the (Japanese) Fender foam too dense and couldn't get the pickup(s) to sit low enough until I swapped in some memory foam.

Ditto. But I just cut it in half along the depth of it with a fresh razorblade and it sat great after that.

I've used pipe lagging many times too and I found the higher density, high temp stuff to be a little better, but only marginally.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Those interlocking floor mats made for standing workspace foot comfort work. One of them is a lifetime supply. Also, closed cell weatherstrip foam from the hardware store, which is essentially what Fender used.

i’ve always used appropriate weather stripping. one roll has lasted me years sealed in a ziplock.
