American Pro II push-push switch malfunction

Post by VANRNR » Sun Jul 03, 2022 7:24 am

Regards all, and hoping you have a fix for this switch. The shaft the knob attaches to has come out of the switch. The end of the shaft has a “T” shape that I can slot back into the switch, but not lock into place. The spring still works but is inconsistent in switching between the two bridge pickup settings.

Of course, the switch can be replaced, but I’d like to avoid that surgery if there is a way to get the cylinder to lock back into place. Thanks!

Sounds like a mechanical failure. Most likey whatever was retaining the shaft sheered off over useage, so you’ll need to replace it. Push/push switches are known to not last as long as a push pull switch, might be better to replace with the latter.

Thanks, gibs. That’s a great suggestion. Any idea how to obtain a replacement that would fit the particular wiring configuration, or just perhaps a vendor I could work with?

They’re pretty much the same switch/pot in appearance, just the mechanics are different, should wire up the exact same way on a push/pull.

So, replaced the switch with a push-pull switch, and works like charm. Much more satisfying movement and action than the stock switch. Thanks again, gibs.
