1965 Mustang trem arm size(s)

Post by NJBuck » Sat Jan 08, 2022 11:56 am

Can anyone tell me what sizes the 1965 Fender Mustang tremolo arm are supposed to be? I need a replacement arm and the hole on my guitar measures maybe a scoonch under 5mm. Could be right at 5mm, but seems slightly under. Does anyone have any definitive knowledge about trem arm sizes for 1965 Mustangs? Thanks.

It will be an imperial measurement, not metric. I have a '64 in my drawer that I can measure accurately tomorrow with my calipers if you want

I just dug out the '64 vibrato arm and the calipers read as:

0.19" which I believe is basically 3/16"
4.82mm in metric

Thank you. Is your trem arm for sale?

So that arm would likely fit into a receptacle that is just shy of 5mm?

Yes. There’s a small grub screw that threads in against a stopper that bears against the arm.

If you're struggling to find one that will fit, I've had success buying the 5mm reissue ones and carefully filing down the part that inserts into the stopbar until it's the right size. A good engineers file and a half hour of patience getting it down to size, but still round enough, and you can fix the issue well enough - and for not a lot of dollar.

Exactly.
thank you.
Professional file instruction you can find in my video.
It takes about 20-22 minutes to fit the trem arm into the unit. :)
Patience

I sanded down the replacement arm so it will now fit in the hole in the trem tube on the guitar. How far into the tube is it supposed to go? Mine doesn't;'t reach the second hole - the hole on the bottom of the tube - is it supposed to? Thanks.
