Hi,
My son has a Squier JM that has intermittent noise issues. It creates a loud buzzing that is very noticeable and occurs when using different amps and in different rooms. Any clue as to what it could be?
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

do you notice the problem when touching anything metal (like the trem or bridge) of the guitar?

The sound occurs whether or not you are touching the guitar.

If the buzz changes when you touch the strings, it's probably a wiring issue. If it doesn't, i'd guess it's a dodgy lead. Change leads see if it helps. If not, do you use strip lighting? If so, turn it off.
The only obvious way to help that I know of if these all draw blanks is to turn one of the pickups around (to reverse the polarity) to get hum cancelling in the middle position. You could try that. A noise gate at the beginning of your pedal chain might also help.
Jazzmasters are fundamentally quite noisy guitars. It depends what you mean by 'buzz', really, and how bad it is.

it could also be a cold solder joint on the guitar.

First try changing guitar cable. If its not that try to listen if the guitar sound disappears completelly while the buzz occurs. Also try playing with the strings oriented down towards the floor and up towards the roof. The probability you have a cold solder joint is high and this joint can be affected by gravity in different ways when you olay the guitar in different positions.
Also try moving the cable connector in the output jack to see if anything happens. Or switch to see if that starts the buzz.
When you isolated the cause of the buzz its time to open up the pickguard to inspect the circuit. But that is maybe another story.
Good luck
