lighter fender bass vi Flatwounds? Looking for 24-90

Looking for something lighter than the labella 26–95, which seem to be the only bass VI flats available. Labella doesn't offer custom flat sets for bass vi, only rounds.

Has anyone found anything else, or any of the other manufacturers who will build a custom set of flats that will work with a bass vi? Thanks.

thanks! Any word on how those feel on the squire bass VI? With 85 I'd fear the floppy E problem that comes with stock squire bass vi strings....

This was my first thought. ymmv...
but I had the LaBella flats (95) and with a Staytrem bridge, I felt it jussssssst moved out of floppy and in to useable territory.
Unfortunately, at that price-point it can be an expensive mis-step - but you'll never know until you try.

I'm using string joy's balanced set (25-90) and love it, it doesn't feel like my basses, more like deep guitar you can do all kinds of bending on. I'm hesitant to go up to 95, but maybe it won't feel so massively different.

Yes, absolutely. I didn't try these but personally would stay away from them, too. I had the LaBella flats on my VI and didn't find them particularly heavy and they play and sound very, very good.

I did some pretty thorough research on this a while back, and found Pyramid to be the only people who will do a custom flat-wound set. I ordered some (which hilariously i never got around to installing because the old roundwounds grew on me as they aged), and they took forever to make and mail, but the customer rep guy, Max, was very easy to deal with.

Regarding tension, it’s really hard to know how floppy or not-floppy the big strings will be. Reason being that it’s more about core diameter than total string diameter, so you would need to know what core to wrap thickness ratio the manufacturer is using, and no-one seems to advertise that detail.

Same as what I’ve been using in La Bella rounds, 24-32-42-56-76-98

Bit of a weird set i guess, but i like less tension on the E-B-G than many pre-packaged sets have, while still keeping the lows reasonably beefy.

I have the la Bella's on now. They feel great, actually better than the lighter ones and zero issues with chords or bends.

Only problem is my intonation is looking like it will need a staytrem (previously I got away with just taking the spring off the low e saddle and bottoming it out.) Though I'll have to give it a day to see how the neck settles, and possibly adjust the truss rod.
