Jaguar CIJ - correct wiring - buzz

Post by jayrope » Wed Sep 15, 2021 12:23 pm

Hi all, i am new here.
I do have a Jaguar CIJ, approx 1999, since some years and finally changed the potis now. Initially the complete bridge pickup didn't produce anything after that, the solution to this was to solder the ground from the jack to the free pin of the volume poti, like this

No wiring diagram of the myriads i found seems to indicate this solution, most say "ground to brass" and obviously there is none in a CIJ from 1999.

And I still have a buzz, which seems bit stronger than before.

Any ideas, how to minimize or evn get rid of this?
Does it help to use brass inlays and change the wiring to a vintage Fender wiring?
If so, what's the best source for those parts in Europe?

Pickups, cables and other electric parts besides the potis (both CTS 1 Meg Audio tapers) are all original, i think (i am the second owner).

Thank you much in advance and nice to be here.

P.S.: Despite the image looking like i made a mess there i had checked for accidental connections and badly soldered connections: All good.

Well, you need to bend the 3rd lug of the volume pot to the pot casing and solder in place and get rid of that extra wire for a start. Try that.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Thank you, @johnnysomersett, that did the trick to actually return the guitar to the state it was in, before i changed the potis.
There's a tiny buzz left, as it was before and which i find rather charming.

Thank you again.
