Where to buy speakers?

I’m going to build a small cabinet for a 10” speaker. Where should I look to buy an as-yet-undetermined model of speaker considering I’d like to balance the competing criteria of price, ethics, reputability, convenience, reliability, and all the other things we should be thinking about when we buy stuff?

tl;dr Where do you buy speakers?

Weber.
I was looking at Weber. Since I posted this thread, a friend suggested Warehouse, but I don’t know anyone else that has used them. Anybody here installed any Warehouse speakers?

much more of a DIY vibe than other brands, but I also really like PMR speakers. AFAIK, there's no history of questionable practices, but who knows.

I've bought bass speakers, and the guy—Jason, I think—is extremely helpful and friendly. Prices seem reasonable to me, and I happen to really like his approach. Most speakers are just weirdo recones of other speakers he comes across—so he doesn't have the spec sheets in the way Eminence does (which I love, btw). For this reason, the inventory changes and there aren't specific "models" available for as long as other brands.

He's very enthusiastic, so it can feel like he's overselling the tone...but in my one experience, the speakers did sound really great. I ordered 4 ampeg style 10" bass speakers, he only had 2 in stock but we talked and he sent 2 that were a similar cone in more of an EV basket (which normally are more expensive, but at no extra charge).

I've never played a 10" WGS, but I owned a SF (modded to BF) Twin that came with the Veteran 30 / ET65 combo, and I liked them A LOT. I'd recommend WGS too.

For a while I had a 2x10 that came with Eminence ..I think it was the Cannibus Rex and Copperhead. Actually, I had that cab just before the Twin—played through a SF Dual Showman Reverb. This is how I realized I like 12" speakers better. This cab was a bit too harsh, and immediate in its bark and kind of an aggressive upper mid/high range. It still sounded very good—just seemed not for me. I wouldn't disrecommend Eminence at all—but my one experience makes me think of them as the standard for exactly as good as you'd think (but not more).

I have one experience with a Weber 12A125 that came in a 40w 6L6 2x12 combo (paired with a C12N), and I like it a lot.

If you have a business, Parts Express offers wholesale pricing.

Another +1 for WGS... I have a 2x12 loaded with Reapers and it might be my favorite cab ever. I've played through cabs sporting ET65s and Vet30s and liked those a lot as well. I wouldn't hesitate to build a cab around the 10" Green Beret or ET10 (10" version of the ET65).

Also their customer service is top notch. Recommended.

I heard a 2x10 Warehouse setup in a combo amp with a bandmaster head in a store. They were so impressive, I had to know what they were.

I’ve ordered a Warehouse Veteran. It’s pretty inexpensive, and I’ll probably plug it into my SFPR while I build a cab for it. If it sounds good, I can afford another later - I’ve had a so-so sounding Celestion “Silver Series” in the Princeton since the late ‘90s when the (also so-so) original was blown (under interesting circumstances :shifty: ).

The cab I’m building is to use with a DIY solid state amp-in-a-pedal thing, but using it as an extension on my Princeton would be nice.

Thanks for the good advice here. I’ll try to post some feedback on the Warehouse after I play it a bit.
