Replacing Squier CV Mustang neck

Post by skern » Thu Jun 17, 2021 10:50 am

Hey guys. I have a Squier CV Mustang purchased a few years ago. It has a maple neck with Indian laurel fretboard, 24", 9.5" radius, 22 frets. I love this neck as it's thicker than the standard Fender 'C' shape.

I'm considering going fretless for this guitar, but because that's a fairly difficult process to undo, I want to make sure I want it before doing it. So, I had the idea to buy another neck to use as a test. The new neck can be fretless, or it can be fretted and I'll just remove the frets.

I was able to find a new Squier Mustang neck, but I'm wondering if I can expand my options to find a lower price. Would a Jaguar neck swap in? How about a Duo-Sonic neck? Anything else?

Warmouth is the place to go for your new neck.

A short-scale Squier or Fender (i.e. Mustang or Jag) should drop in if it's sized correctly -- keep in mind that some MIJ and a couple of imports had slightly different neck measurements. If you find another CV-anything (that's short-scale) it should work with no to minimal fit issues -- worst case scenario, you need to sand the neck pocket or the neck itself so it slides in without cracking finish.

Sorry, don’t mean to be gross, but can’t help not reading ‘warm mouth’ and then everything makes sense.
